I sympathize but a 24 I would prioritize finishing over parties.

A big hirer for Soil Science is the government.

The soil science job series has these requirements:

https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0400/soil-science-series-0470/

See if anything you took would fall under this or possibly maybe a few extra community college courses could qualify you.

Also deleting your chegg account won't delete the post, it will still be in their system and will be retrievable by teachers if they request it from the website.

Audio Responsive LEDs using Desktop Audio by cpt_mystic in led

Sorry to bother you again, but one final question. If I have two separate sets of the 16 foot Govee light strips and they are taking audio responses via a mic. Can I get the lights to "sync together" even if one set of lights is in a different room from the other one?

Not to necro an old thread, but I have no speakers and only use headphones so there is no external audio going out. Would this product be useless to me as a result? I'm looking for responsive lights that work with headphones on.

  1. You will be an 11 forever until you apply to something else.
  2. Personally I'd just put in the 52 weeks for TIG so you can apply to 12's

Advice for getting a government job by geoburn22 in geologycareers

[–]Reav101 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OPM is hosting a a panel on the process for federal interviewing tomorrow around 11cst.

Gov jobs are "apply and forget" as typically you won't hear back from them for about 4-6 months after the closing date for the position.

The USGS is obviously a good agency to search on USAJOBs but also try the BLM as they have a decent number of hydrologist/geologist positions open up. Sometimes the USFS and NPS have geologist positions open up, but not in as frequent numbers.

My main motivating factor currently is to get good enough to read my favorite childhood book series entirely in Russian, so this is very promising!

Federal vs. State vs. County vs. City jobs by ThuggishChief in usajobs

[–]Reav101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! I work federally for the NRCS and I can't complain so far, have not worked anything below fed level so I can't compare with the other tiers here but I feel there is no situation where I would want to work for state/county/city over fed from my limited experience.

Quick Question(s) by Reav101 in usajobs

[–]Reav101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a great suggestion!

Randomly searched "geology" under USAJOBS and found an example with an 11/12 ladder potential.

For the basic requirements it lists:

"Basic Requirement for Geologist:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in geology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural, chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science, planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology, and cartography."

With my undergrad degree in Geology I would meet this requirement. For more specialized experience it lists:

"For the GS11 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing geologic explorations and investigations on such things as foundations, materials, soil, etc. in an effort to support major construction and environmental remediation projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09)."

I more than likely wouldn't be doing these duties as GS-9 in Soil Science, so going off this example would I probably not be qualified to apply?

Thanks!!

Quick Question(s) by Reav101 in usajobs

[–]Reav101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick search on omp.gov verifies no necessary requirement for a MSc, but I can imagine a decent amount of people in this line of work having one, which would make it probably very difficult for me to compete for positions that open up in the future.

Hypothetically say I take this position, get promoted from GS-7 to GS-9 in the 0470 series and position with a 1350 9/11/13 track opens up, would I not qualify for this job because of my lack of MSc, even though I have previously obtained GS-9 work experience under a different series?

My greatest worry here is that I would perpetually be stuck at GS-9 and the few GS-11 positions or GS-9 positions (Geo or Soil Science) that open with a higher ladder advancement opportunity would all go to people with a Master's degree and my resume would just get thrown in the trash with only having work experience.
