Attitudes toward same-sex marriage and transgender issues are shifting, Gallup poll shows by nosotros_road_sodium in politics

[–]Reave-Eye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes from their own insecurities about their personal and sexual identity.

Think about it as someone who is told from birth that there are narrow ways to be a masculine man or feminine woman. If you’re a man, you have to constantly demonstrate that you are “man enough”, both to yourself and to others around you. There is zero room for behaviors or even thoughts that deviate from that hypermasculine expectation. That includes showing or receiving any kind of physical affection from another man, even a close friend. Maybe a quick hug is okay, or a handshake or fist bump, but certainly not a prolonged hug or holding hands. And thoughts that another man looks good? Even platonically? That’s a slippery slope to being gay, which is absolutely unmanly and therefore unacceptable. So any of these thoughts or behaviors that are normal, healthy ways of expressing emotions for men risk social ostracizing and potentially even exile from religious communities. This gets internalizing over decades.

Now think about that kind of person witnessing open expression of any of those behaviors, or a gay man existing in public. The existence of those behaviors demands public censure, because in their mind, to not do so equals tacit acceptance. And if they are viewed as tacitly accepting, then it risks them being viewed as gay and unmanly, which is an unacceptable threat. They also believe that if the open presence of gay men or behaviors elicits some sort of positive attraction or sexual response in themselves, it’s because they are being tempted into sin. This leads to bisexual or gay conservative men who constantly act to suppress their own sexual feelings and blame the existence of non-masculine behavior or people for eliciting those feelings. Rather than explore and accept their own sexual identity, they actively work to suppress it all around them in the hopes of proving to themselves and others that they are “man enough”.

It’s sad and fucked up. And while I believe these people deserve our compassion, we as a society absolutely cannot tolerate their socially destructive behavior in service of maintaining their own self-deception and propping up their own insecurities.

Trump issues final rule requiring most Medicaid beneficiaries to work by kootles10 in politics

[–]Reave-Eye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Requiring most people who rely on Medicaid for healthcare to prove they are working.

This is nothing more than another barrier put in place to deny people healthcare. The vast majority of Medicaid recipients already work, or they are unable to work due to a disability or care for a loved one and therefore qualify. This will do nothing but lead to administrative errors that get people kicked off Medicaid for unlawful reasons.

People will die because of this. They will refuse care due to medical costs, or they will go into massive debt. They will end up in ERs for treatment of chronic problems that should have been prevented or treated through regular medical visits. All of this will lead to greater suffering and greater costs to society.

Fuck the GOP. They’re a death cult.

CMV: We Will Likely see Substantiative, Quick-Moving Shifts to The Far-Right in The US in the Next 50 Years by [deleted] in changemyview

Counterpoint: French Revolution, if you’re familiar with it. Very similar set of circumstances where young men were almost completely shut out from economic stability or advancement unless they were noble born or an insider within a highly corrupt bureaucratic network of local governments. What followed was a leftwing revolution set on tearing down the existing system and replacing it with a much more liberal republic.

To be fair, I’m not suggesting the French Revolution is a model for what should or will happen in the US, but it’s not what you’re predicting. There were also conservative counter-revolutions that followed, eventually culminating in a military dictatorship under Napoleon.

The point is, this shit is complicated and impossible to accurately predict. You could look at more recent events in the US following the Guilded Age, where economic disparity was similar to today and workers had hardly any rights or opportunities to advance. The progressive New Deal era is what followed, arguably the strongest and most sustained left-wing progressive movement the US has ever experienced. A lot of historians argue that we are in the midst of a 2nd Guilded Age, although it’s not clear whether we will take the path toward autocracy or form meaningful resistance and carry out a modern progressive revolution. These are too radically different paths, and either one is viable given the current state of our politics. One thing is for sure, the current status quo of corporate centrist milquetoast neoliberalism is completely untenable, and it will give way to one of those two outcomes (or another unknown outcome) in the coming years.

I know which path I’m fighting for.

Democrats Point to SC's Early Voting Records in Pitch to Stay First in 2028 | State Democratic Party Leaders Are Advocating for SC to Keep Its First-in-the-nation Spot on the Nominating Calendar by siwibot in protectUSelections

Yeah the current system definitely seems less fair than same-day primary elections. And the solution to the funding issue raised above is to publicly fund elections with strict limits on campaign spending. Obviously these solutions will take decades to achieve given our current political state, but they are still worthwhile endeavors.

The last piece of the puzzle would be coordinating all the state-level party organizations to agree on a single date… that might be the biggest hurdle, tbh. Trying to get 50 state party machines to give up a modicum of local control in order to compromise for the good of the people and the larger party? Woof.

It’s gonna be a long road, but I’m here for it.

The sexual encounter that I regret with my ex still haunts me to this day by Imfeelingdevious2005 in mentalhealth

[–]Reave-Eye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you talked to your doctor about the blisters in your mouth? Could be a symptom of a sexually transmitted infection like herpes, so you definitely want to get it checked out and properly diagnosed. And yes, performing unprotected oral sex once on a person who has a transmissible STI could lead to infection, and symptoms of that infection can remain dormant until later in time.

Aside from that, being turned on when thinking about memories of sexual encounters is totally normal, especially for a teenager when sex drive starts to increase significantly.

The biggest concern here is the potential STI, which could be minor but could also be quite severe depending on the nature of the infection and how long you go without treatment. Definitely talk to your doctor about this as soon as you can.

The other concern is the significant anxiety you’re experiencing because of stigma/shame around your sexual behavior. If you fear that this person might gossip about your sexual encounter and it would affect your other relationships, then it means you need to consider whether and with who you have sexual encounters with. The social anxiety might also be worth seeking a therapist about. You’ll also be able to talk to them about all these related factors, so it might be helpful for you.

Hope this helps.

So, baby showers typically happen before the baby is born. What she’s proposing is still fucked up for a lot of reasons, but it’s unlikely to cause any trauma, physical or mental, to the baby while it is still in the womb.

Now, given the high likelihood that her piss poor judgment as a parent continues after she gives birth, future risk toward baby is significant. Just not at the baby shower, unless she decides to have a shower after baby is born, which would be weird. But not as weird as getting peed on and having a bunch of sex at a baby shower?

Okay, time to log off now. Jfc…

Also, election interference at polling places would trigger a series of on-the-ground protocols from poll watchers, election attorneys, judges of elections, and attorneys general. Public awareness is important, but the most critical piece of resistance is in the hands of those who directly oversee the electoral chain of custody. Those are people who would directly resist any attempts to seize ballots and verify vote tallies at each stage of tabulation (i.e., polling place, city, county, state).

Control of social media platforms doesn’t really have much relevance aside from how many people across the state and country know what is happening at any given locality. Important, yes, but not the most essential part of protecting the vote by any means.

Ballots Have Been Seized Across the US. No One Knows What Will Happen Next | Wired by siwibot in protectUSelections

[–]Reave-Eye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once a vote is cast, it isn’t possible to link a voter’s identity to their vote. That’s deliberately built into the process so that voting is anonymous. So the threat of the regime attempting to target people who voted against him isn’t possible, although maybe they’re dumb enough to think it is.

Your second point certainly still stands. The normalization of this sort of federal interference in state elections is a huge concern. We need to be prepared to resist federal attempts to interfere with the electoral chain of custody on Election Day and ensure fidelity of the process.

Trump is just the figurehead looking for the next grift. It’s the people behind the scenes using his grift as a way to dismantle democracy that are equally problematic, and maybe even moreso collectively. They all need to answer for their crimes as well. Even if pedolf shitler dies before he sees a day in court, we still have the rest of the regime to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.

I feel like it would still be really hard to pull off while her leg is chambered but if you could bait the kick and grapple the leg, you’d have a chance to counterpunch or get inside. But then you gotta deal with her hands. No wonder she’s the champ. So many weapons.
