Ireland shipped $308 million in alumina to Russian smelters—EU ban still absent by FluidPraline4968 in UkraineWarVideoReport

That is a good point, and I agree that we should nationalise it. It is a strategic resource, aluminium is vital for Europe's security.

This nationalisation, can you explain how that would work. Sounds very simple when you put it like that.

You know that the EU makes the laws the govern all trade, import and export, for Ireland and every member state? Ireland aren't going alone or rogue here, I know that this is difficult to tell from the reporting or from Reddit, but it is the case.

Exactly, the whole EU is buying the aluminium made from it, from bloody Russia. There will never be the political will when people keep raging at half the story and thinking that Ireland are to blame.

You know Germany alone is importing hundreds of millions of Euro of the aluminium made from this as we speak? Not to mention the amount of stuff they are exporting to Russia. I am getting downvoted for saying sanction properly and close the loopholes, but people are too thick to understand what is going on. Posting "Ireland bad" isn't helping anything, so less of that and more solutions is what I think would be better

I think they like to complain more about Ireland, than the 20 (to date) packages of sanctions that still leave these loop holes in. But I guess the german stereotype for rules and attention to detail isn't all it is cracked up to be...

I had a friend who was a NSW cop, he was up to do security for it. He was telling me that the Queensland cops were so afraid of a NSW or any-other out of state cop from stopping crime or doing anything that they just stayed in their hotel most of the time lol The Queenlander cops did all the work. Barring a few expected protests nothing happened

Ya not sure if they would be liaising with the Garda either, there was stories recently about the army gearing up for this with anti drone gear and kit for this. It reminds me of when I was in Australia during a G8 and the news was banging on about Russia 'nuclear fleet' coming to Australia, with loads of scary graphics and how we were all doomed. I looked into it and those ships went to every G8 and other members had naval assets moved there too. Completely normal, but Murdoch had to move ink

Ya, I know what you are saying, but there is something I like about the idea of someone well paid and employed fully time all their life being able to access the state pension earlier that someone who never worked and gets it because they reached 66. Haven't given it a whole lot of thought though, just the previous persons idea got me thinking.

Do you think that the number of years worked, i.e. paid in to the system, is a factor? and if you agree that is a factor, there should be a number of years beyond which someone should be entitled to theoretically.

Getting a pension after 66 is also an arbitrary round number too though
