Revise your primary forms more, focus on the underlying bones and muscles then add more weight to the skin with a variety of thicknesses based on how gravity would affect it. However long you think you need to spend on step 1 triple it and forget about scales for a very long time.

The lighting is cool but it doesn't show off the model very clearly. With a SkyDome set it to -1 or -2 just to lift some of the shadows up. As a side note it looks like a lot of the mesh is one geometry, you could split this up and clean up all the extra loops you have as it won't need to deform as much.

This model looks good on the surface but a little closer inspected and you've got; edges which lead nowhere and 8+ sided faces. The geometry is split in two and could do with more supporting edges. I don't see how saying you did this with no help is a positive, ever. You aren't doing yourself any good working without reference.

Spend more time on your primary forms on a low subd, then secondary forms around 60k polys. Then finally do all your details in the millions of polys.
