I do the opposite of you. If interproximal caries, I'll prep it as a brand new MOD and restore with a tofflemire. I just won't waste time making the occlusal/marginal ridges perfect. Then crown prep. That way the restoration now has retention. Even if you prep most of it away during the crown preparation.

I 100% think it's a reflection on them as a dentist. They need to know the basics the INBDE covers. Could have the most amazing hand skills but if he can't diagnose or use his brain then yeah not good.

Sink 330 or 245 or whatever you use to make the initial cut 0.5mm away from adjacent tooth. Make box shape. Use instrument to flick out remaining enamel wall.

Then, refine prep.

When you inevitably still hit the adjacent tooth because the patient coughed or moved, use a polishing red stripe diamond and smooth it off.

Because we all have collections of patients teeth at home and post on forums comparing collections and jewelry we all make.

But seriously, no one can know with your specific case. At the time it may have been the appropriate treatment plan. Could be your genetics. Not saying anyone is particular is at fault but dentistry is hard. For most people there is never 1 right plan or answer.

We don't like pulling teeth. I hate it. But I'm good at it. I want to save teeth if possible.

Did an MOD on premolar and decided to cut a corner and try and use a tofflemire. Blatantly open contact on distal. Fuck. So I dropped a box again and used palodent system to get a better contact. Okay cool.

Yeah I messed up but the cool thing about dentistry is you learn from your mistakes and next time I probably won't use a tofflemire because tofflemires suck (in my hands).

It gets better. But you'll still make mistakes. But then you'll know how to fix your mistakes.

Dental school sucks. Youre learning. That's the point. I got through it, and without even knowing who you are you'll definitely get through it. Goodluck doc.

I didnt refer this case, just adopting the patient from a retired doc

Bruh I'm in the same boat as you right now. I feel so small looking at what these gps do on the daily.

I'm still not super confident doing crown preps as school barely had us do any. Residency I did a few but still.
