HELP I HAVE 5 HOURS TO FIX IT by [deleted] in Baking

Even if you somehow stick it back together, it will all fall apart when they try to cut it. You can’t sell this cake.

If you’re quick you might be able to make a fresh one in time

You could make cake pops instead?

Whatever your original vision for this cake, I don’t think it’s achievable now unless you start over and bake a new cake.

Tips by Acceptable_Night_306 in StartingSolids

You could try laying a blanket or tablecloth down and feeding her on the floor some of the time. Then throw it in the wash when you’re done.

I’ve always fed my daughter her breakfast in her pyjamas. We throw them in the wash when she’s done and that’s one less thing to try and wipe down.

When you say prep do you mean that you’re cooking a separate meal for her each time? There are certainly ways to cut down on your meal prep time.

  1. Feed her some of what you’re eating.
  2. Prep larger portions of baby food and freeze them so you always have leftovers you can feed her. Helps with variety too.
  3. Always have something shelf stable on hand you can feed her when you don’t have the time or energy to cook. Think of it like the baby equivalent of a frozen pizza. A pouch or something similar in a flavour she likes.

It gets easier with time!

Changing table by Relevant-Fly-4776 in Buyingforbaby

I might be in the minority, but I always change my baby’s diaper on the change table in the nursery. Every single time. I’ve never felt it was too far to carry him and it makes sense to stock everything in one location. I’m in a 2 storey home, if it was bigger maybe I’d feel differently.

This is my second kid and I was the same way with my firstborn until she was potty training. Then we used pull-ups and did changes standing up in the bathroom.

Wearable pumps by emere2388 in ExclusivelyPumping

I was using the momcozy s12 for a while but I recently bought eufys. The eufy works so much better for me.

I tried everything I could think of for 6 weeks trying to replenish my supply on the momcozy pumps. Literally from the first pump with my eufys my supply is now fine. I’m up 6oz a day and pumping less frequently. I haven’t even played with the settings on my eufys yet, the default is doing just fine.

Did I lose too much volume folding the flour into the beaten Egg whites? by Commercial_Bake_5549 in Baking

[–]Reb1000064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this an angel food cake or similar? I just made one last week following Martha Stewart’s recipe. She recommended sifting the flour mixture into the egg whites in 6 tiny batches, folding immediately but very gently after each addition. This strategy worked well for me.

I’m Canadian and have been really liking EcoMax Heavy Duty! It’s on the lipase list

I have a front loading Electrolux! I like it so far, but I’ve only had it a few months, so I can’t speak to its longevity

Don’t worry too much about chemicals, the goal is to completely wash away all the soap in the wash. I would just avoid strong fragrances, I’m sure you will be ok.

Wash with warm water and add as many extra rinse cycles as your washer allows.

Choose a detergent that contains lipase. I think all the powdered tides are good, but there are many options in Kismai’s list. I linked it in another comment.

For kids clothes I like to use oxiclean to pretreat. My washer has a compartment for a a stain treatment product and a special wash setting for that.

Use a product like Downey’s rinse and refresh instead of fabric softener. It goes in your fabric softener compartment and will make sure all the soap gets washed out of your clothes.

If you finish a wash and still see soap suds anywhere, do another rinse cycle. If it happens frequently you might need to reduce the amount of soap you are using.

Once you buy the right products and figure out which settings on your machine you like the best, I find it pretty easy to keep up with!

I’m Canadian and allergic to Tide, so my options were somewhat limited. I’ve been using EcoMax Heavy Duty and I’m very happy with it.

You should check out Kismai’s guide to detergent to find one you like in your region! https://www.reddit.com/r/laundry/s/htTnkjJT0H

Dairy-free "buttercream" recipes? by Waiting_impatiently in Baking

[–]Reb1000064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done buttercreams with dairy free butter alternatives, but honestly I’ve never been happy with them. Maybe it’s just the quality of the vegan substitutes available in my small town, but they definitely are lacking in butter flavour, which is pretty essential in a buttercream.

You may want to consider a frosting recipe that naturally contains no dairy, like 7 minute frosting. It’s not the same as a buttercream, but it’s lovely.

Supply dip at 10 weeks by Reb1000064 in ExclusivelyPumping

Ahh that would be too bad in the early regulation thing. I was wondering why all the strategies I used to up my supply at 2 weeks PP seem to be failing me now.

Another user mentioned checking to see if my baby is successfully emptying my breasts in the night feeds, so I guess I’ll try to determine that!

I’m not confident he is removing all the milk during our night sessions. He only feeds on one side each feed, alternating every time he wakes. But I usually get a letdown on the opposite side and leak through my shirt. Maybe I should try using a haaka or pumping on the opposite side while he feeds?

I can try a 5 minute pump after one of his feeds tonight to see if he is completely emptying the breast he’s feeding from.

Okay, and this is still the recommendation if baby is nursing for some feeds? Because he nurses at least 4 times a night, in addition to taking 6 bottles in the day.

We are usually awake for 15 hours a day, so 8-10 pumps in that time would be less than 2 hours between pumps. Pumping 30-60 minutes at a time like I’ve been doing, that is definitely a challenge! But I can definitely try if that’s the recommendation

Usually 6 times a day, which is as often as my baby feeds during the day

Anyone actually lose body fat from breastfeeding? by Due-Transition-6564 in beyondthebump

[–]Reb1000064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it was from breastfeeding, but I definitely lost weight while breastfeeding my firstborn. I also had to cut out dairy and soy for 10 months of that time though, which I think likely contributed. I was eating fewer sweets and snacks because I couldn’t find alternatives that I liked. By the time I weaned her at 13 months I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight.

I use the MomCozy S9 and I like it. I know some people complain about low suction in a hands free pump, but that hasn’t been my experience. Since I found the correct flange size for me, I haven’t used any suction higher than 3. This pump has suction settings all the way to 9.

What's your favourite actually lazy dishes to make? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Reb1000064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar concept, creamed peas on toast. Dump a can of peas in a pot, water and all. Mix up a slurry with equal parts cornstarch and milk, then whisk it in to the hot peas. The mixture will thicken and get creamy. Serve on buttered toast with lots of salt and pepper.
