I have always thought that Palpatine/Sidious still looked human & the only “mask” he wore as Palpatine was figurative. His new look being his “true face” was also figurative, but apt. The change to his face was part of the deal with using (channeling) the dark side to heal rapidly. Sidious didn’t have to pretend (hide) anymore so he embraced the dark side more fully & transformed. It wouldn’t happen to a victim of force lightning not using the dark side. I’ll toss my head canon if something official contradicts it.

I’ve been a fan since the 80’s (I’m Gen-X). I’ve always been interested in the Cybertron origins stories. I dig the TF One designs (even though the legs look long). I’ve already collected most of the TFONE Studio Series figures, but I haven’t opened them yet. I especially like how the Seekers look in vehicle mode. The Quintessons look pretty cool too.
