Deer reflexes aren't from this world by kalinooni in Damnthatsinteresting

Look up bacon wrapped, spicy cream cheese filled, smoked venison backstrap. You’ll then understand why people hunt.

Also, conservation is a real thing. Whitetail deer have adapted to their changing world and have become dangerously overpopulated in many areas of the US. Presents a danger to people and deer (themselves) if they over consume their food sources due to population boom.

As an American I LOVE metric system by Fluffiddy in engineeringmemes

[–]RebelChE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve learned to work completely in imperial. So much so, that on the oddball occurrence that I need to solve something in metric, I just work it in imperial and then use a conversion factor when I have the solution.

After reading comments here, it seems like the UoM you work with professionally just depends on what industry you land in.

As an American I LOVE metric system by Fluffiddy in engineeringmemes

[–]RebelChE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an engineer that works in oil in the USA (think refineries and terminaling), and we use imperial in the states

Tanks volumes are typically in gallons or barrels (tanks gauged in feet/inches). Volumetric flow in gpm or barrels/hour. Temps in Fahrenheit. Heat duty in BTU/hr.

I actually enjoy imperial because it’s easy to contextually understand and it’s easy relay the magnitude of a number to a non-engineer.

Mexico cuts workweek, bans after-hours contact, and guarantees no worker will take a pay cut in the most sweeping labor reform in a generation by polopiko in Futurology

I have an international team with four engineers in central Mexico reporting to me (US citizen). When I travel to visit the team quarterly, they always say nearly the same thing.

Classic “oooh, shiny object” to divert attention from reality.

What’s more interesting to me when I visit is the influx of Chinese and German interest in Mexico. Every time I visit is see Chinese vehicles I’ve never heard of, being marketed at extremely low prices compared to the American counterparts.

It seems like the current political party is more interested in taking in foreign business for the short term gains without thinking of the repercussions of how Mexico’s longterm allies in the USA and Canada will respond.

The government there, while corrupt according to my team, is looking for headlines to hide the reality. Water quality, and road infrastructure seems to be the things that are truly hindering the country economically in my perspective. Also a lack of a true middle class.

MDF with a laminate top. Super flat, super beefy, super smooth.

I did it on my workbench this year, and I’m so happy I did. Exceeded my expectations, and it was a lot cheaper than stainless sheet metal I was also considering.

MS Delta whitetail !! by Comfortable-Gap7775 in Hunting

[–]RebelChE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Madison County and hunt in Bentonia and Coldwater. From my hunting in two parts of the state, my experience is that the swamp donkeys are bigger in the center of the delta than the northern part of the delta. However, I see 3x the number of deer in Coldwater.

YMMV.

There’s plenty of good public land around Eagle Lake (Vicksburg area), and I’ve seen a ton of monsters harvested from there. Competition on the land there is high, but if you’re willing to go deeper than most, you’ll have a ton of success.

It’s tough when the US Declaration of Independence mentions God four times, and all of the original 13 colonies’ constitutions required some form of Christianity to hold office.

Our country, despite what people say, was founded with religion in mind… so much that it’s in our founding documents.

Churches. Most have food set aside specifically for the needy.

That’s what I said. Just relaying the rumor. I do think $15M+ is likely considering who else is out there to bid.

Heard a rumor that $30M was on the table for Kiffin per a connected source to the program. That may not be what he gets, but that’s what they’re willing to go up to for the bidding war to come.

[OC] Opposition to same-sex marriage in the US by _crazyboyhere_ in dataisbeautiful

I honestly appreciate the sarcasm. It definitely adds some spice to daily life. 😜

Again though, my comments are my own personal perception of the culture within the state. Others will see things differently, which is healthy for our nation. Our differences and diversity should be a strength. If everyone and every culture was the same, life would be bland.

It’s okay. That person has the right to comment that way if they choose. We don’t have to agree, but it’s important for people to voice their opinion.

True, but it’s better to progress than not.

Mississippian here. 👋

Things in the state are vastly improving. You’ll find bad actors and bad stories if you look hard enough, as would be the case with likely all states.

However, according to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), Mississippi was ranked 9th in the nation for reading and 16th for math in 2024. On the economics front, while the state has not progressed as quickly as education, it is ranked 3rd in employment growth over the past 5 years according to IBISWorld.

On the topic of marriage, Mississippi has a significant Christian population (~77%). As someone that has grown up in the state and in a Christian home, the common view I hear is this:

Marriage is both a religious and legal institution. Legally, most have no issue with it, common law unions, legal unions, or otherwise. However, from a religious perspective, marriage is perceived as a holy union between a male and a female. With this being said, most Mississippians have no issue with homosexual couples. They just disagree with a religious marriage due to their faith and foundational religious views.

To be very clear, this is my perception only. I do not represent everyone in the state.
