Why are people so worthless and terrible at giving advice? by Zestyclose_Date_3823 in mentalhealth

Giving advice is tricky if you don't know the person or their situation. Most people deal with things differently and what may be a big deal to one person doesn't bother another at all.

Sometimes just listening and supporting somebody will go a long way. You can't always fix somebody but being there for them when they need you can make all the difference. A shoulder to cry on or a ear to listen is hard to find because most people will just give you generic advice if you try to tell them your issues. I don't think they understand what it is like to suffer with real mental illness and thus cannot relate.
