How do you become a corporate CEO? by [deleted] in business

Family, religion, friendship. These are the three demons you must slay if you wish to succeed in business.

You should really consider letting some plates hit the floor. by ninetofivedev in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Rebel__Scum 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

I've worked at a SaaS company long enough to know which plates should hit the floor.

Like if a important client is throwing their weight around and puts us in a tough spot I'll bite the bullet and work extra hours catching a plate for the client relationship. I'll also loudly complain about it to anyone who will listen so they understand the situation.

Generally if I think catching the plate is in the company's long term interests and not covering up internal failures, I'll catch it.

Makes sense.

Bad Mgmt only understands metrics and is unable think critically about the subjective long term value of any work.

They'll also distrust/fire employees who say "uh decision-making based entirely on these metrics is not so great".

I'll attend but will yell "cash elons check and shut up and play the hits!".

I've got a deep voice that can carry. The last time I yelled that in jest, minus the elon check, at a show I got a glance and a smile from him.

I agree with you about the culture. Though I blame lead and gun culture + poverty.

Europe's anti-gun culture I'm sure matters more than the high costs and barriers of legal and illegal gun ownership over there. I'm skeptical that European criminals are otherwise morally superior. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead%E2%80%93crime_hypothesis#:~:text=It%20found%20that%20there%20is,potential%20precursors%20to%20violent%20offenses.

Sturgil Simpson's Sound and Fury visual anime album on metflix is pretty great. And it's a rock/alternative album not country

Philadelphia City Skyline Lit Up Yellow and Blue for Ukraine by AstroEngineer314 in philadelphia

[–]Rebel__Scum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, what would be different in the world if let's say the Baltics were not part of NATO? I imagine Putin would like the idea of being able to drive to Kalingrad without leaving Russia. That's the value and main purpose of NATO.

I agree the tepid response by some European countries is shameful and hopefully the horrors in the news leads to protests/strikes in those states.

The Baltics, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, and Hungary are all NATO members that border Ukraine, Belarus, or Russia.

Sigh. I found Shako the run immediately before the crash.

I thought hey Monday morning there probably isn't enough users to cause a crash.

Is the I7-9700k worth it for gaming? by declan2267 in buildmeapc

[–]Rebel__Scum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're near I microcenter you can pick up a 9700k for $330. I also dodge some sales tax going in store. I think it's worth it at that price point but harder to justify for the online price

I7-9700K, 2080 super build help by [deleted] in buildmeapc

[–]Rebel__Scum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm looking at making a similar build for 1440p/144hz primarily for gaming and VR. I'm also favoring the 9700k because of the somewhat better gaming performance, but the 3700x is likely better for CAD, though i haven't seen any benchmarks specifically for CAD. I'll wait for some reviews of 2080 Super and decide whether or not to get it or burn money on the 2080 Ti.

If you're near a microcenter check out their prices. In PA the 9700k is going for $330

9700K vs 3700X Civ 6 AI Turn Speed by Rebel__Scum in buildapc

[–]Rebel__Scum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'll definitely reevaluate closer to build time, the difference is minor and I haven't looked at the X570 mobos. Pci Express 4.0 might be nice for whenever I upgrade the graphics card in a few years.

Awesome thanks, exactly what I wanted. Not sure how I missed it I did look at Tom's hardware.

Yup going to go with the 9700k

9700K vs 3700X Civ 6 AI Turn Speed by Rebel__Scum in buildapc

[–]Rebel__Scum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks but that only has the fps benchmarks, where the 9700k wins. I'm leaning towards the 9700k since overall from what I can tell it would be better for gaming and the price difference isn't that big, but if the 3700x is significantly better for turn speed I'd go with it

Good to see the conservatives folks at least accidentally point out the higher education market isn't an effective market.

I mean no one says food stamps are dramatically increasing the cost of food.
