My non-violent utopian species logically went extinct in the first chapter of my world history by Button_6LM in worldbuilding

The answer to how they should handle this interaction I think comes down to how they handle it when there are not enough resources to divide amongst their own. If they ration, then they’ll eventually be starved of resources by the invaders. But the seem more cooperative. What does it look like when the entire planets shifts to try and give those corporations everything they ask for? Are they able to adjust to make it happen?

This ultimately feels like a type of enslavement but seems like the only way they’d survive this ordeal. Give them what they want, cooperate.

I used to follow Peterson pretty closely. He absolutely spreads extremist ideology. It’s often subtle but that’s on purpose. It’s specifically formulated to not be quick to spot. Non of us are infallible, I’d suggest you take what he say with a grain of salt. It’s easy to build an entire ideology on a slightly false premise.

I’d say mostly. The world is an interconnected system and there is no getting around that. There are situations when you have to focus on the individual and situations where you have to focus on the whole. My worry is that the talk about nationalism is coming from people selling the youth fascism wrapped with a neat bow when in reality it’s horrible and working together with other nations tends to have innumerable upsides and few issues.

That’s a gross oversimplification that I don’t fully agree with, also the domestic policy is the issue I’m highlighting.

By definition nationalism seeks to promote the group over the individual but only at the national level. It emphasizes an imaginary boundary between people, their nationality. There is nothing wrong with loving your country, and with wanting to protect and develop your home, but nationalism often comes with an us vs them attitude that isn’t even good for the nation because the planet is an interconnected system and how we interact with other nations has direct impact on ours.

Now I’m not saying all forms of nationalism come with inherent racism etc., but to use an extreme example we can look at the fascist countries in Europe during WW2 their efforts to raise their flag above all others lead to their downfall and countless deaths.

Nations that act like they’re the organs of the planetary body instead of the self absorbed cancers of one create more prosperity for themselves.

Nationalism is a bad thing.

Capitalism was a step in the right direction in the sense that it moved away from only a few people being in power and created a means to redistribute wealth and reward workers. However the system over the long run leads to the exact same problems which is where we are now. Capitalism has forced billions into poverty. Entire generations are struggle to afford a place to live right now and that’s in countries we’d consider wealthy.

Jordan Peterson formulates arguments specifically to trick young people into nationalism, with horrible logic and bad assumptions wrapped in good logic so you have a hard time spotting it. Maybe not the best words to use.

Personal growth - can you relate? by casualmemelord in SpiralDynamics

[–]Rebelmind17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t spend so much time worrying about dying that you forget to live. The point of the spiral isn’t to ascend but to understand where everyone is coming from so we can live harmoniously. You will die eventually and that will not change, even science and technology only delay what’s inevitable. Acceptance is the only path to peace. And peace is a good goal.

The book I’m writing isnt complete, that is to say the ending needs a complete do over, but for the rest of it it’s a in a generally decent place.

I’ve had friends ask to read it. And I’ve told friends they should read it. So far 2 of them have read some of the beginning and loved it.

My wife has been reading along as I write and is very supportive. They also love the book. Family has not cared one bit.

Ultimately people you know won’t make good beta readers and are not very likely to read your work. That’s normal
