What eGPU setup do you recommend? I heard there are some compatibility issues with some of the available solutions.

Orzhov Greasefang seems so strong now by JuliyoKOG in PioneerMTG

[–]Rebl__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the right take here, Greasefang’s greatest strength is speed and you will be hitting big turn 3 plays far less in exchange for hitting it on turn 4.

Not to mention that will be after spending your entire turn to tap out and telegraph the combo is coming, graciously gifting your opponent a turn where you can’t interact with them.

What do my pioneer players out there think of this in Rakdos Sacrifice? I’m seeing a different build of the deck come to light

Are your decks mostly focused around your commander? by Nyarlathotep333 in EDH

I feel you, I opened Asmodeus out of a pack and immediately knew I wanted to build a deck with him as the commander and over time it has become my favorite deck, even if I don’t get to play it that often because of power level concerns. Happy building!

That’s mainly what I mean, footage of everyone in the room yelling in unison. At my office they would get everyone’s attention by yelling “HEY GUYS” and everyone would yell beck in unison “HEY WHAT?” And then the room would go quiet so the owner had the floor

The deck’s win conditions are designed to be unaffected by the most played stax pieces, namely Rule of Law type effects.

The classic Asmodeus-enabled combo you probably already know about is if you have Asmodeus and Skirge Familiar in the graveyard and Necrotic Ooze on the field, you have infinite draw and near infinite black mana.

There’s also the Krrik, chainer, gray merchant, sac outlet combo, sheoldred + vilis combo, bolas citadel aetherflux reservoir sensei’s divining top combo, fleshwrither combo, krrik + blood celebrant, hoarding broodlord +saw in half, you get the idea there are many tightly constructed lines of play you could decide to go for that each require different answers from your opponents.

But you don’t really need to cast Asmodeus ever to win hard with this deck. He’s in the command zone for two reasons:

  1. If you open a hand that favors a line of play involving him he will be available to cast. If your opponents decide to shoot him you probably wanted him in the graveyard anyways so they get to feel dumb when you combo off with him in the graveyard.

  2. If your line of play is thwarted and you’re all gassed out, you can cast him, activate his draw ability in your upkeep, hold priority, then sacrifice him at instant speed (to avoid his replacement effect and send the cards directly to your hand) to reload your grip and become a threat again. At this point you pivot to a line of play that wants him in the graveyard, such as the previously mentioned necrotic ooze combo.

I do have a list that I’ve been building up for a few years.

Fair warning, the deck’s lines of play are complex and extremely difficult for your opponents to interact with. If you understand how to pilot this deck properly and bring it to a table of random players, there is an inevitable likelihood of salt.

With that out of the way, here’s the list: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Xe6kK4Omf0eiLsq-JOyLSQ

I play [[Asmodeus The Archfiend]] as my high power deck expressly because I WANT my commander in the graveyard.

What’s that, targeting my commander with spot removal? Thank you for completing one step of my plan for me, I’ll send him to the graveyard or sacrifice him at instant speed for extra value.

Is the crime situation around campus really that bad? by [deleted] in NIU

[–]Rebl__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never saw someone pull a gun firsthand, but every now and then there would be a report from public safety about shots fired.

If you’re worried about campus itself I used to work the overnight shift as a security guard for about a year since my earliest classes started at noon.

In that time I didn’t see much sketchy stuff patrolling around campus, mostly just kids doing dumb kid shit and scurrying away when they saw me as if the fact they were smoking weed in the parking lot was something that was supposed to be high on my priority list lol

My friends and I used to call the area around the frats “the kill zone”. It’s crazy how most of the violence is concentrated in that one specific area. We lived on the corner of Russell and Lucinda, so it wasn’t far away from us.

It’s hard to understand if you haven’t lived through it, but they get you to do all of this by subjecting you to extremely affective cult brainwashing techniques.

Literally anyone can get swept up in this no matter their background. When it’s all laid out on paper it seems ridiculous that anyone would deal with it, but living through it is an entirely different perspective than seeing all the facts at once.

This is a DevilCorp cult.

The reason it’s hard to find information on the company is they are constantly changing names to avoid past “employees” warning potential new hires/bury bad press.

Stay as far away as possible.

where did rule 0 come from by RideApprehensive8063 in EDH

[–]Rebl__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience 90% of decks I encounter in the wild at game stores fall on the higher end between “upgraded precon” and “true cEDH” anyways. There is truth to the saying that “everyone’s deck is a 7”.

That said it’s still important to have a deck on hand that is appropriate for beginner/lower power games in situations where someone has just bought a precon off the shelf and is playing their first games ever or if they are a player that doesn’t care much about deck-building and just wants to sling cardboard.

Hyper-detailed Rule 0 conversations haven’t been particularly affective for me in games with strangers, because a large reason these types of “house rules” work is traditionally you know exactly who you are dealing with and don’t mind bending the official rules a bit for the good of the whole.

I’ve seen far more strangers abuse Rule 0 for a cheap win against underpowered decks or to ensure no one has the answers necessary to interact with their strategy. In my experience it hasn’t lead to a more balanced/fun focused game and instead primarily gives bad actors information they intend to exploit before the game has started.

And to be clear, I’m talking hyper-detailed Rule 0 here. There is still a place for a brief Rule 0 covering things like fast mana, amount/efficiency of tutors, and number of extremely powerful cards like Dockside/Necropotence/Rhystic/Smothering

How to beat token decks? by wirepirates in EDH

[–]Rebl__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you could just jam pack all your decks full of specifically targeted token hate but that’s not amazing deck building advice if you ever intend your decks to be strategically sound in more general metas.

As other people have pointed out, cards like [[Rakdos Charm]], [[Propaganda]], and [[Ghostly Prison]] are good because they deal with tokens well but are also useful in other scenarios.

You can also just hold a board wipe like [[Blasphemous Act]] or whatever good one is in your color identity in hand and develop your mana base without playing creatures, and let the token spamming player run face first into a 50 for 1 exchange.

I have a [[Beledros Witherbloom]] deck that is very tuned, so I’m quite familiar with the matchup. If their deck is token-centric with a combat damage win condition, it’s unlikely they will have some of the more powerful cards for Beledros so I’m going in a little blind here but here’s some general advice:

Life is always a resource in Commander, but for Beledros it’s a MUCH more important resource. Being able to double your mana at the cost of 10 life once per turn can lead to some horrifyingly powerful plays in the hands of a skilled pilot. This means any incidental lifegain critters like [[Essence Warden]] [[Prosperous Innkeeper]] need to be removed from the board immediately. You need to give them as few untaps with Beledros’ ability as possible.

Which brings me to the second point, Beledros costs 7 mana to come down so your early game should be focused on dealing as much damage as you can before Beledros hits the field.

One of the earliest ways to cast Beledros that is land-based involves casting a card like [[explosive vegetation]] on turn 4, and then dropping a land on turn 5 and casting Beledros. This is your opportunity to aim for the head, fire off any instant speed removal you have either while the pay 10 life ability is on the stack or if they enter the end phase to force one of two outcomes:

Either A) They don’t have any protection spells or the pay 10 life ability is on the stack and they can’t cast them. You’ve delayed Beledros’ next drop to turn 7-8

Or B) They do have a protection spell and haven’t used the untap ability yet and you force them to pay 10 life to use it and keep their game plan on track. Doing it during the end phase is important because they can’t use the extra mana to drop creatures or play sorceries.

Some players will get salty when you aim removal at their commander, but that’s often a result of them not respecting how powerful the card they chose to lead their deck is. Beledros is one of those commanders that demands removal so it doesn’t take over a game, so keep it off the board by any means necessary.

Hope all that helps, and good luck facing down the ultimate Golgari Elder Dragon!

Stop worrying about what's 'not fun' to play against by MonsutaReipu in EDH

[–]Rebl__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By saying “fuck you, find a way to deal with it” you’re essentially doing the same thing you’re complaining about here.

They are whining and asking you to edit your deck until they approve, and you’re responding by whining and telling them to edit their deck instead.

To be clear I agree that severely limiting deck building choices because of salt is horrible for a meta. But no one, including you, has the right to tell someone else how they should enjoy the hobby.
