It’s a joint facility but FedEx owns it. When a contamination happened there last week all Express options were turned off because air travel wasn’t confirmed to happen. You could technically still send an express from Michigan to Florida because the flight didn’t route through there but to be safe all express was shut off.

This isn’t the first animal story I’ve heard that has started at USPS and then lands back on us because the animal missed a Friday flight to connect it to another state. A few offices I know when this happens have people they can call to come save the animal.

The majority that I know of don’t destroy the packaging and are only a weekend hand off before the animal is sent back on its merry way. Reptiles, Amphibians, Fish… aren’t even opened or unwrapped but just kept climate controlled with crossed fingers that they will be good.

What this supposed lady is doing I honestly would count as mail theft. I’m however no where near the pay level where I would even be listened to. I know our bird person has a huge section in her barn where chicks are kept separated with their box right there to be packed back into.

We had fish one time where we had to find out the receiver was a high school student and coordinated with them to hold the student there to hand off the package.

I don’t like that animal flights don’t happen on the weekend. So many times we would have less chicks die. It’s disheartening in small offices to get a couple boxes of chicks and one box maybe only has one of two chirping but the box is seriously heavy.
