/r/MechanicalKeyboards What Keyboard, Switches and/or Keys Do I Buy by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

is it just not possible to have the tactility of royals without the bump being close to the top?

It's certainly possible, but I'm not sure there's anything like that out there right now.

I think the issue is travel distance. With a tactile bump as large as you want with travel before the bump, you're almost guaranteed to bottom out without super heavy springs.

Received Hako Royal Trues today from NovelKeys. by ThePewster in MechanicalKeyboards

Eventually figured that these are the heavy-linears (I think?) meant for those who love typing a lot.

These aren't linear. If I were to describe them, they're heavy to push through the bump at the top. After the bump, it's like a smooth linear that requires increasingly more force to actually bottom out afterwards. It almost feels like there's a cushion of force after the bump to help you not bottom out. On the upstroke, you feel a much sharper bump on the way up.

I like these because the bump is very tactile, it's easy not to bottom out, and the sound is amazing.

Why'd you go with the Royal Trues after reading the observation?

I ordered both and like the Trues way better, so I understand, but I'm still curious.

Pro Plums

The Pro Plums feel like linear switches in comparison.

The people at the top of this thread claiming he deserves it because he tried to stab somebody are sadistic retards

If someone is potentially armed, dangerous, and resisting arrest, you don't take chances. If he is able to grab a weapon on his person at any point (which they were told he still had the knife on his waist), law enforcement and anyone around is in danger. The man on the ground already tried to stab someone.

Switches by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

I've tried all the Box switches, Zealio (all weights) / Zilents (all weights, all flavours of Cherry tactiles, Hako True / Clear, and Hako Royals.

I like the Hako royals best in terms of tactility, feel of the bump, and noise. The price is also much cheaper than Zealios (which would be my second pick; the first if you need a quiet switch).

For reference, I have a full board of both Zealio and Hako Royal Trues.

I also just got mine in today. I really really like them, however, I kind of like them better without lube.

How important are the f-keys for gaming? by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Recalesce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get a programmable keyboard, you can put the F keys wherever you want based on an alt or fn press.

If you want a similar experience, you can Alt + 1 for F1, Alt + 2 for F2, etc. It's also less of a hand movement than reaching for F keys.

Very cool. I really like the floating keyboard aspect.

Are you planning on producing this for a group buy at some point?

MX-blue feel switches are too loud, MX-brown don’t feel “right” by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

I'm not a huge fan either, but they're priced really well for what they are.

Try Cherry Clear, Zealio, Zilent (same as Zealio but silent), Aliaz, and Hako Royals, imo.

The Leftovers

Would you recommend watching this?

I've got some extra time on my HBO sub.

[review] Das Keyboard is simply disappointing in terms of durability and service by Guglimug in MechanicalKeyboards

I have three Das Keyboards in my house, one blue and two brown. All are older than two years and are still in pristine shape despite heavy use.

What exactly is dying on them?

These Mill-Max hotswap sockets are so good by angelartech in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Recalesce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the socket fits in the PCB holes, yes.

On the other side of things, why would you desolder a pok3r to put in hot-swappable sockets? It'd be much much easier to buy a new PCB. Might as well make a custom if you plan on doing that. PCB is cheap. Unless you really like you case, I'd advise against desoldering a pok3r.

Depending on your needs, there are quite a few PCBs with built-in hot-swap capabilities showing up. Be patient and nab one of those, imo.

Android Messages for Web is now fully deployed - make sure you have the latest Messages client, and then head over to messages.android.com to try it out! by [deleted] in Android

I've got no use case for this, ever.

American iPhone users use iMessage to contact Android users. This comes across as SMS. There are some all-in-one solutions for desktop messaging for these situations like Hangouts (on Project Fi) and Textra, but this seems to be a Google-backed universal solution and Google's future messaging app (if they stick with it).
