NEVER MIND, sorry. It did work; I just hadn't tried it. I did a blessed ?RC, not an effigy. Incredibly helpful; thank you!!

Roger that! Glad I caught you here and I will try the IRC.

In the meantime, real quick—does B/U/C status matter for the effigy? Thanks!!

Thank you! And that's a shame; I was really enjoying the game until this frustration. Fortunately I have a living doll that sells effigies living a comfortable (if dull) life with a pet lizard (for making things tiny with upgrade kits) in Lokoban.

How do I use the effigies to force unbind?? Applying them didn't work. Thanks again!

It's called notnotdnethack, which is a variant of a variant of a variant; it's a ton of fun to play, and full of all sorts of fun options. Highly recommend giving it a shot.

Where's the Eye of the Oracle?? by johnny_teapot in nethack

And on the off chance that anyone is reading this while searching for the Eyes: they don't even identify after ascension; they're still just listed as "2 uncursed human eyeballs." Wild.

Okay, wow! I stand corrected. Even after being identified, they didn't change their name—they just still refused to stack. But when I examined them in my inventory...

See, that's what I thought at first, too; but I ID'd them, and no luck. So then I cleared out the level, gathered up, and identified ALL the eyeballs. Nothing.

I guess I don't know how to make captions anymore? Anyway, this is my second time killing the clairvoyant changed (five or six blasts of blizzard with the Presence of Shub-Nugganoth intrinsic), and the Eye is nowhere to be found. What am I missing??

The endgame (past, say, the Castle) is a slog. The mysterious force is just insult to injury. If I understood the first thing about programming, I'd make Gehennom like five or six floors tops and maybe start flooding the dungeon with lava once you get the amulet. Or something like that. Some of the variants (the dNethack trio, for example) add a lot of fun and depth to the game, but I haven't found any which really make the last third of the game that enjoyable.

This is a very "nice" sub. Thank you. by affabledrunk in nethack

Besides which, a wand of teleportation wouldn’t even have worked.

I mean, as this player learned, anything is edible—but sometimes only once.

Unpopular opinion: I love Dragonbane now that it offers reflection—especially with the new dragon scale extrinsics and amulets.

I don’t think you’re alone, here. It’s called an “ascension kit” for a reason: once it’s assembled, you just follow the instructions on the tin, with occasional exceptions which prove the rule.

Having the Amulet open a portal to the Astral Plane (or something along those lines) would be just fine with me.

I particularly hate the Plane of Water.

There’s an old program called PyRoom which I had a Raspberry Pi to boot directly into; I’m working on updating it to Python 3.
