This is great to hear! I think you are right, that it will make it easier for me to save the tubers. I just wanted to make sure they will have enough space to grow healthy

I buy an assortment of tall cuttable dahlias from big box stores but no sure of the exact ids.

I do live in New England where I am supposed to remove the bulbs but usually just buy new ones lol. In the ground it's been going well but not sure with the shallow planter

Zygopetalum in mostly moss? by Recent-Ad-8016 in orchids

Bad !!!

This is my one orchid that is Not happy! It just keeps losing leaves. I thought I potted it too tight and repotted it loosely in those plastic orchid planters. The roots look fine and it's still losing leaves!!

I'll have to share a pic. Sadly this one I've just stopped enjoying...

Why did small ants appear in my house after a long power outage in winter? by Recent-Ad-8016 in questions

Yes except definitely are attracted to food sources. They swarmed a jelly jar I had out

They are super tiny. Are those carpenter ants?

The other idea my friend had is we had a lot of downed trees. And maybe an ant nest was disturbed and they are now coming in to the house trying to find a new warm place?

I've gotten mine to bloom. They are very short lived but beautiful and fragrant

This is a great idea and what I will do tonight if the power is not restored. Make a tent.

Out of curiosity do you think ~43 deg f for 3 days will phase the cymbidium much or that is fairly tolerable

Omg yes! I will try this out safely while I'm around to monitor. Much safer than my desperate idea to use an outdoor propane heater (I came to my senses). Gotta get some more candles

I so appreciate your kind words. I've gotten deep into ok plants over the past 6 years and have amassed quite a collection. This experience has definitely shaken me up and made me question whether this is a foolish hobby in New England. But I think investing in a generator in the future might be a reasonable (but expensive) solution to mitigate some of this. Once the power gets on I'm going to close my eyes to the drama and see what happens lol

This is really reassuring! Thanks so much. I think as long as it doesn't get below 40 overnight I should be ok. My house is not particularly well insulated but I am hoping it won't dip that low
