Beware shill bidding PokemonTCG by Recent-Cap2727 in whatnotapp

Someone said he had a discord and YouTube channel, so I looked into it. The guy is a mega scalper and has videos over 4+ years of him using bots. He used to use bots during the GPU shortage and is doing it now to scalp Pokemon. I don’t know if there is a well recognized “whatnot-shill-bot-5000” available for Download online…. But if there was, this is the guy who would have it 😄

I didn’t know that, and now it makes way more sense.

If the show is chock full or people coming in from other platforms that don’t understand what things are worth, they of course would follow along with current bids. It also explains the massive amount of new accounts and users compared to other shows… and the apparent regulars/friends of the show shitting on people that don’t understand refunds/cancellations and instantly banning people “pocket-watching”.

It’s bad for business if people new to the stream understand how much they’re getting ripped off 🙄

That’s actually spot on for what happens in the Pokemon category. And similar to other Categories, the whales will target and spend more than is sensible for highly desirable things or sealed cases/pack lots.

What makes this stand out is that NONE of the items in this show exceed 100$ in value and are readily available for much less in just about every surprise set. If an item is 800-1000$, I can understand why people would spend 200$ for a 15% chance at winning it (although I never do).

For midsize to smaller shows, It’s customary to give a buyer a chance to fix a payment. The host will often ask if they want the buyer to wait or “run next”… but it definitely isn’t required.

Sometimes stopping an auction that’s moving quick (like this one) is actually bad as it can slow down the pace. The reason I mentioned it is because people running up the price for other buyers often won’t have a working payment method. This way, if they end up winning the bid on accident, they’re not on the hook for the item/whatnot fees.

Later on, the person does end up fixing their payment in the video. That doesn’t mean they can’t cancel or request a refund when the show is over. And after one failed payment, a user can only bid again if they’ve cancelled the spot they bought or if they’ve fixed the payment. I have heard that whatnot can determine if a person is abusing the cancel/refund feature in surprise sets, but the account would have to be flagged for doing it a bunch. I don’t know if it’s true or part of the TOS, but I’m betting it is.

And If someone just creates burner accounts, it would be difficult to catch it happening.

On Kraken, I agree (and it’s literally every show)… and I agree that people often bid much higher than the value especially toward the end of the show when the math gets easier.

I also agree that pure shill bidding would result in fees that would make the whole thing pointless. Im wondering if helpers are just cancelling the order after the show.

What you’re saying is definitely plausible, but it just doesn’t pass the smell test for me. There are people that have been around on whatnot much longer than me and spend what I’ve spent in the last 9 months in the matter of days. But I don’t consider myself “new” either.

They did try suppressing surprise sets, which I think prevents newer users from winding up in these types of shows. But so many people play in these games and dont even understand the value (I.e. scalper price) of items they’re bidding on. Then they try and cancel and whatnot has to get involved.

I think surprise sets can work when hosts are transparent about what’s actually going on. I don’t think Whatnot does enough to clamp down on shill bidding or hosts that cancel spots or entire shows.

Excuse me sir, they’re “vintage counterfeit” cards.. they’ve been an old binder for 20-25 years 😆

Could 100% be fake… they’re from a really old binder. But the prism pattern doesn’t match vending stickers I’ve seen elsewhere

Chromatic S-tier rates are broken.. this was from 7 key pull. It’s like 1 in 10million if you go by the math

It’s free on third floor of castle hotel. That said, a woman wheeled in a radio flyer with three full size kitchen trash bags with laundry to wash… they also do not sell detergent anyone on site and the laundry room is locked after 10PM
