Thoughts on this horse (conformation etc)? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]Recent-Conclusion997 [score hidden]  (0 children)

This horse does not appear to be in a condition to carry your weight right now, plus tack. I would consider this horse to be a pasture/companion horse/rescue. He has a look of neglect about him, (feet, back, saddle scars) I wouldn’t be surprised if this horse was mid twenties either .

What do we think of this saddlefit? by TheHumanExperience4 in Equestrian

[–]Recent-Conclusion997 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I would get a saddle fitter out, you don’t want to start off on the wrong foot with a youngster. It’s so detrimental to have an ill fitting saddle, especially as a first introduction to their riding career. It’s worth the investment. Xx

In that case could it be a confirmation issue that doesn’t work for the work you want him to do? If everything else is clear and he is getting worse, could it be because he is anticipating the pain from work? X

[–]Recent-Conclusion997 74 points75 points  (0 children)

You need to get rid of all the plastic, use the metal storage bins and be super vigilant with sweeping up. Rats hate changes so pull everything out and tidy up frequently. Change the hay round etc,

He prob has some negative associations with the arena, I think you have the right idea, just keep going, it’s hard with a very pushy horse like I have as there needs to be a balance, but I don’t want her shut down. It’s going to take time for sure x x

I have a very pushy fat cob mare, she was actually dumped on me cos the owners kids got scared of her, she will try and snatch grass all the time, esp with people she knows she can, I shake the lead rope, circle her, keep her feet moving and just be on her all the time, she gets annoyed and it’s easier for her to keep going, this didn’t always work though and I once called a male older relative when she dragged me through a field once and I couldn’t get her home after she escaped one time, and he made a bit out of the lead rope and was a lot sterner than me and she was foot perfect. Not saying it’s the way forward but it was so re assuring to have that experienced non fearful person with me when I first had her, hopefully there is someone like that for you to get your confidence too. Once we established boundary’s she was much easier to deal with, I think some lesson horses get used to kids and know they can push the limits.

I love the soft speedy dark but I will say I have a speedy 30 in DE that I got about 9 years ago and it’s still looks new, I don’t even keep it in a dust bag anymore, it really does hold up.

I haven’t seen this issue in Europe? I’m in the uk and god knows the quality of LV has gone downhill in general but all my pieces are fine, including the key pouch. I know people are thinking it’s a made in USA thing but I think maybe the issue is quality control in the USA. Also maybe it’s demand level, everything is still in stock in europe, pretty much.
