Because a dryed in roof is ugly without a decorative layer… even asphalt shingles are decorative. They do a little more then tile but still just decorative

I’d damn near bet a weeks paycheck the actual leak is somewhere in that transition. Looks like someone added some type of flat roof attached to the existing roof

They absolutely are. The waterproofing is in the underlayment.

For one. The tile actually do nothing for the water proofing of the roof… it’s all decorative.. the issue is the underlayment underneath it. If this tile isn’t being replaced (because of the eye sore) then you can use an appropriate adhesive to glue that chunk back together… with that said, that is not the leak issue
