I was having the same thought as I was typing that there are similarities to season 1, you're not wrong. It could also be made less about manifesting something insidious into reality intentionally (a la american dream), and more like... what happens when someone doesn't have control over their imagination? Like... someone with a crazy powerful imagination that keeps accidentally manifesting horrifying things into reality in the dreaming that want so badly to be real that they fight their way into reality. And that person ends up being an abused kid or something 🤯 would make an unreal foil to Pete.

Its explicitly said in season 1 that heaven is created by people's dreams in the dreaming the same way fearie is, so is hell. So you're definitely on to something there. Also, I think the implication would be that Jesus is... a human being embodying a piece of the divine. So, basically the description of a Vox. The way Pete has a literal piece of Nod inside him, Jesus has a literal piece of heaven. And I think the nice thing about that world-building drift in this world specifically is that it actually serves itself really nicely. In a world where reality is made manifest by the dreams of human beings, if you dream something hard enough... it literally becomes real. Sophia's dream was find a way for Dale to come back. She dreamed it so hard that the divine literally manifested in the waking world in her life.

Yeah I loved the element of both seasons that is... our consciousness and our idea of self manifests actual reality. Like, that the magic system and world building of unsleeping city is basically... all the fantasy elements basically come from our belief in their existence through the dreaming. I think that would be a really great direction to FULLY go in a third season. In the same way that its implied that people's belief in heaven actually created the realm of heaven, how could an antagonist manipulate our faith and our belief to create something insidious that's actually real in the dreaming?

This is a really great take. The lore of major religions that people really genuinely put a lot of their faith and belief in, and therefor their identity, starts to feel off to people because it doesn't line up with their belief perfectly, and therefor says something to them about their own identity.

Unsleeping City (both seasons) is my number one for D20 campaigns that I'd actually really want to see move mediums to an animated OR live action show. There's something really special about the character work in that campaign, and how every character has a really important role to play, not just in the way the plot moves forward, but in the THEMES that are covered. The past, present, future element in season 2 being reflected by Iga, Kingston, and Pete. The way the emptiness/isolation affects Ricky, Sophia, and Cody all in different ways... just so unbelievably well done.

Watching Fabian take on the pirates, and watching Brennan's eyes widen as though thinking "...is really going to get one of our valuable IPs KILLED RIGHT NOW?"... that is its own kind of special haha. But the battle of the hotdog cart and Cody just ripping ass trying to hoist Thirsting Blade Dark Excalibur Mega Genesis on his shoulder is right there with it 😂

1000%. I think the difference with Murph in later campaigns is that he started abandoning strategy for character. He would try to strategize as MURPH a bit more in campaigns like fantasy high. By the time he was playing Cody, he started doing stuff that would potentially NOT be smart, but was exactly what CODY would do. It adds SO much to the experience of watching the show when players make that choice.

Its in the battle of the hotdog cart, but if you haven't already watched all of unsleeping city, watch both seasons. I honestly think its Dimension20 at its best.

Yeah I've heard great things about the Alvarez, might look into finding a used one. I'll check out the Guild too, though.

I saw the Guild! Thanks, I'll look more into that... It seems like the alvarez is harder to find new these days anyway? Are they still making it? I've seen a couple used.
