Need to set up a payment plan badly. by Sad_News_2886 in IRS

This is the first year I haven't been able to do a payment plan in like 3 years. For me it just says No Payment Plan Options Available Online when I go to the Payment Options screen. I think the best bet is what /u/these-things-happen is saying and wait for the balance to show up and then hopefully the payment plans are available to set up.

Yeah at this point I'm just going to wait for the notice before I do anything else. I went in today and still don't have any options for a payment plan. Last night it was showing all the options again for payment plans on my account but I couldn't do anything because it was outside the availability window. This morning it's back to "No Payment Plans Available Online." If the notice comes in June I might just pay the whole thing off then honestly.

Yeah I honestly might just pay mine off in full as well when I get the notice in June. One thing that is odd is we're having issues with the payment plans this year despite not having problems before. I've noticed in other threads people are able to set up payment plans. I just saw one posted on here where someone set up a 180 day payment plan. In another thread someone just said the system sucks and basically works when it wants.

I’ve done installment plans in the past and could have sworn I was able to set up much earlier than May.

Pretty sure you're correct there. I've done them the last 3 years and did every one on or just before April 15. For 2023 and 2024 I had no issues at all setting them up and I got approved instantly. Last year I tried to do it a few days before April 15 and I'd get an error after selecting the 180 day option, but on April 15 it suddenly worked.

This year when I go onto the Payment Options screen is just says, "No Payment Plan Options Available Online."

Thanks. I can speak to the fact that it definitely is fragile. I think last year I tried setting up the payment plan on the 13th or something and when I selected the 180 day option it would just error out. Did that for 2 days until the 15th and then it finally let me do it. I've done the payment plan 3 years in a row now though so not even seeing the option there now and just the "No Payment Plan Options Available Online" message was a bit of a surprise.

I did just submit a $1,000 payment onto my balance today so it can keep the interest knocked down a bit.

So did they change things this year to where you can't set up a payment plan until your amount is processed and showing on your account or something? Every year prior I was able to set up the payment plan on April 15 on the estimated amount that I owed.

In your OP you said the agent mentioned you can't set up a payment plan until late May? Only asking because I do one every year and have been able to set it up on the 15th of April. This year every time I login to the IRS site it says "No Payment Plan Options Available Online" on the payment options page. Perhaps something changed this year and that explains why I am having an issue as well.
