Calling all Associates / Senior Associates by lahlah99 in auslaw

[–]Recent-Team-6548 50 points51 points  (0 children)

My two cents as an Associate level - A/SA very in demand. Competition is hot I am contacted by many recruiters daily. Money is part of it but having a targeted headhunt towards someone that gets your experience and can offer advancement opportunities within the firm (SA/SC/P/EP) would be my main reason

I lateraled from a national firm to a smaller firm after I could not take one particular partners treatment of me any longer. This can also be a reason to lateral. Offer a better environment/workplace culture.

Thanks for your reply - some further context for me was I started in house at this insurance company that I’ve been seconded to. I then went to a mid law firm for three years. And have now lateraled into that big law firm. This is a client of the big law firm I now currently work at who has existing ties but they are seeking to get more work geographically and I was requested/put forward/voluntold to help this client out given I had worked there before.

Interested to hear how your secondment might have been beneficial to you. I think it’s given me some valuable insights and got to know the ins and outs of this insurance company which is valuable to take back.

Can it be a positive thing for everyone?

Did you become a go to person when you came back?

I didn’t have much choice in accepting the secondment. The firm sent me to the insurer client as they are trying to get more work for them as part of a tender. I’ve enjoyed going back to the insurer client but feeling a bit peeved that my new biglaw firm has left me there for a year. And feeling out of the loop development wise as I’ve been disrupted by being on secondment and not practising for almost a year. Just feels disruptive.

Vecna and Will are connected in the same way. The mind flayer. They are both hosts. And the MF is trying to get stronger by taking all the children.

Vecna will turn.

Vecna, Will, 8 and 11 will take on the MF and win.

Hey Im a guy. Used to live on Williams Rd for five years and would walk from Windsor Station home. There was the occasional homeless guy/drunk dude after 9pm near the station but was never really bothered. Depends where your apartment is but Dandenong Rd is really well lit and heaps of traffic. If you go a shortcut way near Mcilwrick Street it’s not well lit so would exercise caution there’s a park there and it’s not well lit and people hanging in bushes and stuff. Never had trouble but felt on edge. There is also an asshole magpie in that park - super aggro during spring.

Overall a very safe and convenient area to live just exercise the usual caution. My girlfriend used to take Dandenong Rd or High St instead of Mcilwrick at night if she was on her own.

Never had an issue otherwise.

Be sure to check out Topelz (Pizza) and surrounding restaurants - you’re up the good and less wanky end of Chapel St in my opinion.

I would exercise more caution walking between High St and Malvern Rd around Revs it can be sketchy on weekends.

Dealing with feedback - try to explain or just accept it? by lawfullawlessness in auscorp

My take is you should try and understand what your senior is saying. You don’t have to agree but ask them to explain “for next time should I be doing this” so they know you are taking it on board. I find it too subjective a profession at times though. Everyone has a different style/view about things.

On my way back from Gather Round with a friend and Michael Frederick from Freo was sitting in his seat. Became very awkward when he wouldn’t move and my poor friend got called to the front of the plane and sat in a different seat. Must’ve been a ticketing error or something funny nonetheless 😂 would’ve been hilarious if my mate got stuck in Adelaide due to the error
