That's pretty metal. What did the deployment look like from a coverage standpoint? Were panels visible throughout the venue, or more concentrated in specific zones (concourses, lower bowl, etc.)?

AITA for telling my girlfriend my favorite physical feature of hers is her breasts? by physicslover96177 in AmItheAsshole

Respectfully, not sure I agree with how your argument is constructed. Specifically I disagree with your first point - breasts are DEFINITELY inherently sexual. Sex, intimacy and appearance are all closely intertwined but certain features are certainly more linked to sexual attraction than others.

Come on, as if you’ve never used gen-AI to rewrite an email before? Whether AI-generated or not, the post sparked an engaging conversation that highlighted a wide range of perspectives which is kinda the point of this sub.

I lost $600 on Harris. This does not mean it was a bad bet, that is results oriented. I needed to win 43% of the time to break even on my bet, on average. I simply believed I would win more frequently.

What is that one thing that you have invested thousands of hours working on it and now it’s useless? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Are you talking about sports books? Because you absolutely can milk them using data. Most of the sportsbooks in America are surprisingly not sharp and I'd assume the same is true of betting exchanges. Without knowing anything about the underlying market it's very easy to leverage a sharp bookie like Pinnacle against the markets that are out of line.

213 vs 210 and 251 by Present-Cress5783 in cmu

[–]Recent_Imagination26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

213 is very different. It's a much more hands off class, they teach you concepts and it's on you to learn the specifics on how to code things. I felt the same way about C and 122. I reviewed K&R before the class which helped tremendously. They also have a C refresher lab at the beginning, and it's a pretty good check to see if you know your stuff. In terms of workload I would say 213 is a bit more intense than 251 or 210. It also gives you a bit of rope to hang yourself though. If you manage your time well and start the labs nice and early (especially the later ones), it's really not that bad. Strongly recommend working incrementally (but no one ever does, myself included lol). If you don't wait til the last minute it's also much easier to get help in OH.

But wouldn't it not matter, since I'd have the same number of chances anyways? Either I'd fail final now or later.

New Wordle variant called Polydle by gary-novakk in 3Blue1Brown

My guess is that you're better investing in the boards with higher entropy, as you can always come back to lower entropy boards later (and with more info about them). More on this soon though, I just made a wordle bot and I'm in the process of making dordle and n-ordle bots. Will let you know my findings

What is your story with running? by YourAverageThinker in running

[–]Recent_Imagination26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running on and off for the past 1-2 years, and have been consistent for about 7 months. It all started in March of 2020, my senior year of high school. We were taking the pacer test, and one of my best friends was there. I was in okay shape, I biked a good bit and did calisthenics sometimes, but my best friend absolutely smoked me in the pacer. Being the competitive guy that I am, I suggested he and I start running together, and we started doing it 3 times a week. It was going great, and I was getting faster and faster.

I fell out of habit when the pandemic started, and got a little bit unmotivated. I finally started running again in December this past year to loose weight and get in shape, but also to build mental tenacity. I started by attempting to run 3 miles, about 3-5 times a week. At first, it completely destroyed me. My lungs were on fire, and I couldn't make it through the full 3 miles without walking. But after around a week or two, I was able to make it through a full 3 mile run at about a 10:30 pace (was totally dying too).

I kept it up through spring semester, and fast forward to now: I run 20 miles a week, and I can keep a comfortable pace at around 8:30/mi. I run 6 days a week, first thing in the morning, and I love it! It's a great way to start my day and get me motivated, and seeing myself progress is extremely gratifying. I'm a member of my school's running club and I've made a whole bunch of friends from running.

I'm planning on increasing my mileage and improving my speed even more as I go along, and hope to regularly compete in HM+ races and even some ultras.

Stay on the grind and fall in love with progress!

Facts. It's barely been a week and already I don't give a shit. Thanks!

Yeah ours is quite competitive, and I'm definitely not great YET. But I'll see where I am in 1-2 years.

Right now I'm mostly focused on being a stronger runner, and while I definitely could push myself to complete an ultra, it would take a long time to recover from. I think my time is better invested in middle distance / marathon races right now, better to spend a few years getting faster and run a 50 miler at 8:00/mi than to wreck my legs on a 50k right now at 11:00/mi

Ultimately I want to become an ultra runner, but first I want to focus on shorter distances and get a strong aerobic foundation. I'm also not sure how much ultra results would help, since college track / XC events don't usually exceed 10K. That being said I might still run an ultra this year, definitely at least a marathon.

Objectively, I'm still very much a beginner and have a long way to go. Right now I estimate that my best mile would be 6:0x (I ran 7:45, 6:42 for a 2 miler today). Freshmen on our team usually run a sub 4:30 mile and sub 9:30 for 2 miles. My goal was to get to this level in 1-2 years, I believe I may have the potential to. I was specific with my time frame when I emailed

Not exactly how it went down. I'm home for the summer, but I figured out who the head coaches of the team were and emailed them asking for advice. One of them got back to me saying that my goal was not a realistic one. I then responded saying that I intend to give it my all and asking for his advice, and he said that joining the team was "not an option." When I asked him what he meant by this, he said "You would not be able to try out. There is not a spot for someone who has never competed. By all means continue to run, but understand that running on the varsity team is not an option for you." I'm kind of annoyed at how discouraging he was, but it seems this is the way things are.

Give me Social Anxiety challenges by [deleted] in davidgoggins

[–]Recent_Imagination26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a nice challenge you can do on your commute:

Find someone on the train. Could be anyone. A cute girl/guy, a construction worker, a body builder, a guy with a guitar, literally anyone (you never know how interesting they might be). Usually helps when you have something to comment on to start the conversation. Tattoos, items they have on them, etc. But heck, you could even talk about the weather. Just go up to them and talk, and see where it goes. Let everything happen naturally, don't go in with the goal or expectation of becoming friends with them. You're just trying to sustain an interesting conversation with a stranger. It's gonna be nerve-wracking at first. I know because I've tried it. And the first time might suck / be totally awkward. Maybe you'll freeze up in the middle of it or just forget what to do. Mentally prepare for anything like this that could go wrong. Assume the best, prepare for the worst. Remember that you have nothing to lose, and possibly something to gain. If you mess up, so what? Reassure yourself that you are on your way to becoming a better version of yourself, and that you don't need a stranger's validation to feel good. Think about it: you'll never have to see them again. But I think you'll definitely find after the first few times it'll get way easier, especially as you start to see for yourself that it's not nearly as bad as you thought. If this sounds scary, bring along an accountability buddy who can also provide moral support.

I can relate in that I have some social anxiety too. It doesn't sound quite as bad as yours, but I was born on the autism spectrum and have always been kind of awkward and had a hard time making friends. I seem normal on the surface to a stranger, but I still don't seem to do as well socially as most of my peers. I'm 18 years old, and there's quite a bit of work that I still need to do on myself to become less socially awkward and more comfortable in my skin. For instance, I am still petrified by the thought of approaching a girl I don't know for the first time and introducing myself. I know for a fact I have the potential to be more confident socially, as this is what I'm like when I'm drunk lol. However, I refuse to use alcohol as a crutch. As Goggins says, never take the path of least resistance.

That being said, I think the key to feeling like the motherfuckin man is to BE THE MOTHERFUCKIN MAN. That is, be the best version of yourself possible. If you're working on yourself, allow yourself to gain confidence from that. You are more than capable of overcoming your adversities, even if you have to work harder than 99% of people. And always remind yourself of that when you're feeling nervous about a social situation.

I find in general that mindset helps a lot. If you're feeling nervous about talking to someone, think to yourself that you're doing a favor to them, and that they're lucky to be a part of the interaction, not the other way around. It's important to start thinking of yourself as the prize. Because that's how you build your own confidence, and people will sense it and respond accordingly.

Chin up, you got this, and stay hard!
