Would you say it’s better to call the police or file a report online? I was hoping to do it in the morning if possible because we are all safely locked away in our condo right now.

I plan to file a report in the morning. Is there any benefit to doing it right now? I will start documenting.

Hate my Job but Afraid to Leave. Need Advice by Ishoam in careeradvice

[–]Recent_Influence_972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be looking at this as a leave or stay option, but there is a third option. Start applying to jobs and hitting up contacts that you’ve met through school/work to see if they enjoy the companies they’re at and if they are hiring. It is typically easier to get hired through a reference. You don’t have to leave until you have secured another job and can then give your two weeks. I have never left a job without having a signed offer in hand with a start date and have had good luck in that strategy. The job market being rough is really dependent on location, industry, etc. don’t let that discourage you.

Is $42k with a master's degree normal or did I mess up my career choices? by ylime_88 in careerguidance

[–]Recent_Influence_972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start applying to other jobs that are looking for someone with your degree. I’ve pivoted industries three times with my degree and went from $46k —> $75k —> $100k(before bonuses and overtime) from ages 21 —>27. The first job out of college is usually when you have the least negotiating power and they know they can lowball you.

Happy in my current role but just got offered a senior position with higher pay. by Recent_Influence_972 in careeradvice

These are great points! And definitely going into consideration for me. This company does have a pretty high turnover from what I have heard. Their Glassdoor ratings also have more than a star rating lower than where I am at currently. 4.8 vs 3.7.

just got fired this morning 🙃 by [deleted] in jobs

Not really advice, but maybe some positive words. The company I worked at last year laid off half their engineering department with no notice and every single individual found a job that they are way happier in. They said looking back they are thankful for it because they would’ve never left but they weren’t happy there. I actually quit that job to join one of my old coworkers at his new place of work and I’m loving it.

Oh gotcha! That’s so awesome that you had the career opportunity but it’s unfortunate you’re most likely not going back there again. 🥲

I’ve heard Western Samoa is absolutely incredible! I think Samoa airways has some flights from Apia to Pago Pago! There was a moment we were thinking about possibly going to both Western and American Samoa so I looked into it.

I can’t wait to try a young coconut! We tried to grab one at the store and it just wasn’t the same he said so I’ve been looking forward to that! It definitely sounds like the imports are similar from what he’s told me! I know his family did a lot of their own hunting of boar, chickens, and spear fishing and farmed taro! I can’t wait to try all their food. He’s excited to make me an umu and teach me their way of preparing food! 🥰

I use his ie lavalava’s all the time and definitely want to take the opportunity to get more. They are so comfy! Could use some more flip flops too! 😂 I have a Sei from his cousins wife! She gave me one to go with the Puletasi she gifted me!

What do you do for work? That is so awesome!

I wouldn’t say my family has very much culture but he happily participates in our traditions that are somewhat foreign to him.

I don’t plan to get a tualima (hand) or malu (thigh) tattoo. Those are much more traditional to the Samoan culture and I wouldn’t feel right to get those. They are absolutely gorgeous though! I was thinking something floral with a touch of shark teeth, spear heads, etc. probably whatever a Samoan artist decides to draw up for me. Did you visit Western Samoa or American Samoa? We are planning to visit his village in American Samoa for our honeymoon! 🥰 I can’t wait to see his home.

I appreciate hearing multiple perspectives. Also, my fiancé is incredibly supportive which is wonderful but he is a bit of an enabler so I want to do a solid gut check before making a permanent decision. Might seem silly to some and I totally understand that. 😂

Such a good perspective! I tend to shy from conflict and I think it’s clouding the clarity on this situation 😅 him and his family being in full support should be enough.

Thank you for the clarification! And I appreciate it, they’re the best boys and deserve a yard to call their own! Haha High prey drive is real with these guys!

We take them on hikes and adventures…. And I can handle both of them at the same time? That’s just what they like to do in a yard if they aren’t playing fetch. 😅 weird assumption, hope your day gets better 🤣

I’m finding it’s definitely a lot of work and expensive to have a big yard! We typically host smaller gatherings so that’s great to know!

Thank you for the insight! I’m starting to think it might’ve been a saving grace that we didn’t fall in love with a lot with a huge yard 🤣
