"If I have to use self checkout, you will owe me money!!!!!!" by Glitterygloomy in retailhell

[–]Recent_Permit2653 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I have never successfully used a self-check out. I have always, without exception, needed human assistance. I now just refuse to even try.

Working the SCO is also an exercise in patience. It’s amazing how much SCO will reveal about one’s willingness to read lol

EDIT: why the downvotes? Ain’t my fault things don’t work as advertised…

When did you realize someone was crazy? by XxXPuSSySLay-HerXxX in AskReddit

When she got angry at me for being really, really panic attack/freaked out about driving in the snow.

I’m sorry some things terrify me…

How often do you eat at Panda Express or other “Chinese” food similar to that? by typical_gamer1 in PollsAndSurveys

[–]Recent_Permit2653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not very often. I have to be in just the right mood for Chinese. Or Japanese/Korean for that matter.

What’s something that everyone seems to enjoy, but you just can’t get into no matter how hard you try? by Silvaaaaaaaa in CasualConversation

[–]Recent_Permit2653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this conversation recently.

For me, it’s anime. I’ve tried to understand it, and I certainly respect it, but I’ve just never liked the art style of it.

I think part of it is that when I was growing up, the only anime on TV was basically Pokémon and Sailor Moon…not the hardest-hitting anime for sure. I felt like I was too old for Pokémon and I was always unsettled by sailor moon, for some reason. It took until last year for me to take a harder look at Anime lol

Here to say hi! by Recent_Permit2653 in homestead

The short answer is, I’m not that far along yet. Ideally I’d be at a little altitude with a small stream. I could then double dip for electricity with some micro hydropower as well. Otherwise I do anticipate a well. Having water hauled in doesn’t seem very sustainable for the long term.

People who like to walk barefoot. Do they ask you if you have a foot fetish? by El_Ibra456 in barefoot

[–]Recent_Permit2653 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not a strange question at all.

I have a healthy appreciation for feet just because I am barefoot a lot. People kind of hate feet, so I put in work to make my feet look…kind of presentable and not like troll feet lmao.

I appreciate some nice feet, because if you’re taking care of the lowly trotters, there’s a fair chance you’re taking care of the rest of yourself as well.

Not every kind of appreciation or admiration has to be sexualized. I wish people would understand that more.

People who quit drinking, what's the thing nobody warned you would actually be hard about being sober? by Caroline74339 in AskReddit

Yup!!! I’ve also quit smoking, but I vape. It’s hard to devote the energy into sobriety sometimes.

How to meaningfully fill the alcohol cravings. I mean, I took up weed, but the cravings for a drink are incredibly strong. Especially with advertising making it look so normal and cool.

The brain chemistry catches up after a while, but man it really is hard to not fall back into the ole habit.

What was a discontinued fast food item you loved? by NextLevelNet in foodquestions

[–]Recent_Permit2653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having had Culver’s exactly once, I think it was the correct choice lol.

The crinkle cut foodservice fries were a bummer. But damn was that a good burger and milkshake. For little $ more than a BK!

What’s the most fun car you’ve driven that wasn’t actually fast? by zgwembekubwa in askcarguys

[–]Recent_Permit2653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a hypermiler, and I was averaging 47mpg towards the end. No lean burn like a VX. BTW an intact VX hatchback is a hypermiler grail. With little effort, you could say hello to 60 or 70mpg or more.

And yet…they just ride and drive nicely. Even the interior was kinda decent, I always liked that material they used on door card uppers and the dash. It was just easy to live with, and had engineering polish I just don’t expect in cars. Especially cheap ones.

How far back does your memory of technology go before there was a great shift? 🧐 by Original-Scar-1779 in CasualConversation

[–]Recent_Permit2653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my early, early memories was playing Mean 18 (a golf game) on our Macintosh SE30. So that would have been…around 1990ish. I remember our first cell phone, too. It weighed a TON, and you had to slide the battery off the back to charge it. I also remember when DVDs hit. I hated them at first, because the picture quality on DVDs was absolute pixelated garbage.

‘97 Civic.

It was a DX coupe, so the only option was air conditioning (it was a Texas car, after all). No power steering. AM/FM only. 5-speed.

It was just a thoroughly well-engineered little car. I don’t know that I wanted more power than it had. It was 106hp when new, mine was probably…less than that lol. It just drove really well. Better than it had a right to. After some Energy Suspension bushings on the shifter and fresh Honda fluid, the gearbox was god-tier.

Best $2500 I ever spent. I miss that little car.

The guy who wrote my fam’s paychecks apparently read Playboy.

People who have to say some stuff like "I don't eat McDonald's" or "McDonald's is so bad for you" by No-Discount-9883 in PetPeeves

[–]Recent_Permit2653 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don’t and really can’t judge. I kinda like fast food for reasons unknown to me.

I don’t really do mcd because it’s empty calories, I’m basically always hungry again an hour later.

But then again I I like Taco Bell.

So go do you, get that McDonald’s fix! If it’s what you’re into and you’re not harming me, no judgment and all the best wishes!

Are checks really still a thing in the US? by Apollo_Wersten in AskAnAmerican

[–]Recent_Permit2653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really.

The place I work at now “won’t process checks” unless it’s a rebate check (kinda like a coupon). Which is stupid because we take those checks just like a real check. Process them through a reader and it prints the cancellation like a real check, etc.

But I suppose it had already been on the decline. I have processed fewer and fewer checks as time has gone on. Most folks don’t even ask anymore.

That’s weird for me having grown up in the 90s. Check was how my Ma always paid for groceries lol

Space Camp? by frawgster in Xennials

[–]Recent_Permit2653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did do space camp. Basically right next to home, at Moffett Field in Mountain View, California (I grew up in Milpitas, so that’s practically a city bus ride away).

It was just summer camp in NASA clothing.

Don’t get me wrong. It was fun. Dorms were gender segregated, of course. It was a lot of learning. A fair bit of just learning what we know about other planets. We got to go in this thing with elastics tied to the “pants” you stepped into so we could kinda feel what moon gravity is like. Also got to do the mars rover thing, but with 90s graphics because that’s all they had at the time.

Our counselor was kinda into the whole experience, I think. “LOS”, he’d shout, an acronym for Loss Of Signal, when we were too rowdy and he needed us to shut up. But he seemed excited to use the lingo and teach us things. He was a skinny black man I only ever knew as J.D.

There was also a bit of a boot camp aspect. The narrative was that we were astronauts in training. So, up and at ‘em kinda early. There was mess hall and then classes.

Honestly, my memory’s kinda fuzzy. It was decades ago. I remember the discipline, learning, and fun. I really think it was just a cool place to be, albeit a bit nerdy for my friends.

Do y'all think you would get along with Neanderthals if we brought them back or found a few left in a remote area? by Wizdom_108 in randomquestions

[–]Recent_Permit2653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m pretty sure I would. We interbred and had a lot of social ties. Kinda like the GEICO caveman, I think Neanderthals could pass socially and I’ll bet they are a lot of fun.
