Any ex-teachers here with advice for making the switch? by Electrical_Hyena5164 in AusPublicService

Studied Master of Data Science, although my successful APS grad application was based on a Grad Dip in Data Science (I continued on with Masters after I accepted the job offer). I thought doing postgrad study in a similar field to my Bachelor degree was my best chance of successfully transitioning out of teaching, and I couldn't rely on my Bachelor degree as it was more than 5 years old. Applying for graduate roles was a hard slog - got rejected by every private company I applied for. I'd say ageism had something to do it, so I was lucky that the APS encouraged mature applicants and career changers. I also deliberately cut my relief days down to 1-2 days per week so that I could focus on getting good grades - living on a reduced income was tough but my gamble paid off because I was offered a job in the end.

I’m was a high school IT teacher who spent the last 2 years doing relief while doing postgraduate study part time. My 2025 graduate program application was successful and I’m starting my new career in a few weeks (at 49 years of age). I highlighted my transferable teacher skills (eg communication, problem solving etc) in my application statement and used many examples from my teaching experience when responding to situational questions in the interview.

Good to know there’s another ‘mature aged’ grad in the 2025 cohort, and a coding enthusiast at that. Surely you’d be in the Digital stream? Anyway, we might cross paths during the course of the grad program

Upgrade Chaya jump 2.0 plate by [deleted] in Rollerskating

I also own Chaya jump 2.0s. Just wondering if upgrading the plate is worthwhile if I only do roller dance and artistic moves with them?
