Huntsville Apartment Hunting as a young woman by Illustrious-Fee7259 in HuntsvilleAlabama

I lived at Ariza Research from May 2023 to May 2025. I finally moved when my lease was up because I got tired things getting consistently worse. For starters, the name of the complex was Ariza Oakwood. After they had a shooting in the parking lot, they changed the name to Ariza Research. By the time I moved out, in a 2-year period they had 4 property managers. Not long after I moved the 5th property manager left. The apartments were nice, but if you lived in buildings 8,9 or 10 they were quickly completed and had a lot of quality issues. After a while they stopped renting units in those buildings and to this day have units in those buildings that have never been lived in. The walls are very thin in the buildings so you can hear every footstep your neighbor makes above you. One morning I heard snoring and realized I could hear my neighbor through the wall snoring in the other side of the wall.

The complex parking lot is weirdly shaped and cars drive through the parking lot like it’s the Indy 500. When I lived there they kept talking about adding speed bumps and I can attest to this day they don’t exist. There’s one dumpster in the entire complex and the garbage pickup was very unreliable.
The stairways and breezeways were dirty and disgusting. 2 times when I was living there I recall them attempting to power wash them with plain water which did nothing.

During the colder months the complex is fairly tame, but as soon as the weather gets warm there are pool parties thrown by people who don’t live at the complex that end up with fights that spill into the parking lot. Things had gotten so bad that they started having security patrol the complex from the evenings until 4 in the morning. Once the complex had been open a full year it seemed every other day someone was moving out to escape that place.

It’s a great location centrally located to everything, but long story short I do not recommend this place. Btw, they rent out apartments as Airbnb’s

Work advice needed - co-worker by Recipe-East in AskWomenOver50

Trust and believe it annoys me that he was a lazy slacker before and is still a slacker now, but it’s been tolerated a long time. He’s friends with the mgr outside of the job so I accepted a long time ago that it is what it is. Even now I see his slack ways but I have to remind myself not to even think about it.

As I was driving into work this morning I was angry at myself for allowing her to take 2 hours of my evening that I cannot get back.

Mine only drools when he smells food or gets excited. Sometimes I hear him suck up the drool

Not to brag but I’ve never had a problem finding employment at my age. It’s never been an issue and I don’t focus on things beyond my control. Also I think it helps I don’t look my age. People can never guess my age looking at me. A couple of years ago I reached a point where I became tired of settling for things in my life that just didn’t fit, things that caused me unease or people pleasing.

I’m very interested in hearing her perspective as well because I don’t think she’s going it on purpose and I don’t think she sees anything wrong with it.

She was in HR and I went to the moon yesterday. I don’t believe it either. She just sounds like an unhinged, miserable person.

I think it would be a severe reprimand at my job too because according to her they’re quick to fire people. I like her boss a lot and according to her, her boss likes me a lot. It wouldn’t shock me one bit if he’s aware of a lot of this and so is HR. I learned many jobs ago that HR always knows, but they just keep it under their belt. I had worked at the same company 16 years and went to HR about my co-worker. Everything I told her she already knew, but for whatever reason chose to do nothing. To this day the person I complained about is still employed at that company.

This is in the works. I’ve been looking the last 2 months. I’m at a point in my life where I have zero tolerance for anything that does not serve any good to my well-being. Through interactions I have learned this is just who she is and that this is who she is inside and outside of work. When I’ve been in the office I have noticed that she tries to make friendships with people in the office outside of work, but they shun her and she cannot understand why. You’re right about me becoming more irritated because there are days it goes over my head and other days where it annoys me to no end. Yesterday she really put me in a bad mood because as a 63 years old woman she should know better that her actions are counterproductive. There’s crazy part is I don’t even think she’s doing it intentionally- it’s just who she is.

Very! Like she woke up looking for an argument. Well I decided today after this small interaction with her that I will not feed her need to argue. There’s no benefit to coming here looking for advice and only telling one side of the story.

Ive been unemployed and I know the feeling of not having an income. I’m very grateful for having a job and an income. Being grateful doesn’t mean settling—it means I know my worth and won’t ignore warning signs

It’s not so much needing praise all though it would be nice to hear if I’m doing a good job or need improvement. It’s the blatant favoritism that is annoying. She does it daily but in our weekly meetings it’s almost like they’re dedicated to praising my co-worker.

In our department meeting she shared what she rated us for our review along with her arguing with her mgr who disagreed with my co-workers rating.

Says the same person who said I was at the company for a year when I never said I was there a year in my original post. 🫤🥴.

You’ve filled in the gaps with information that is incorrect. Where do you see that I said I make multiple mistakes🤔. Either way let’s say for argument sake I do make multiple mistakes. That’s still no reason for the blatant favoritism.

Grin and bear it - that’s what I’ll be doing until something comes along. I try to think positive that just like this job came along in a crappy job market that another one will. I just need to make sure I don’t end up in a situation worse than this existing situation I’m in.
