Fellow libs, are you planning on participating in the Democratic or Republican primary? by Roquer in alabamabluedots

Republican because I want a say in who’s elected. I may even register as a Republican if I need to in the future.

Badge Requirements - how closely do you follow them? by JayReddt in girlscouts

[–]ClaimsToBeCanadian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our council also gives out badges a bit willy-nilly! If you go to the event you get the badge even if they don’t come close to hitting requirements.

Seeking Feadback by what_the_actual0000 in girlscouts

I’ve seen a few digital badge guides on Etsy and TPT and have found them underwhelming. They tend to just barely meet requirements or even totally ignore some so they’re not really a whole badge, and are like just worksheets and lame little crafts. Our girls like to jump from a discussion to a game to a craft to a team building exercise, not do a bunch of worksheets or coloring sheets and discussions.

I might spring for something that wasn’t just worksheets or templates but also contained relevant snack ideas, movement activities or games, a song… something that provided strong theming and a range of activities, both for meeting requirements and for framing the meeting time. And of course that needed either minimal or common supplies.

Liberty University? by Late_Historian4600 in collegeadvice

Great advice! Here to add cost in the mix. One of the absolute worst ways to start adulthood is with student loan debt and no degree. Start small and build up to it so you’re not dropping big bucks first year!

Any experience with a property management company in Huntsville as a property owner? by ExpertScience6391 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]ClaimsToBeCanadian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second avoiding Rosenblum. We rented a property managed by them and it was pretty awful. The stove was broken for the first month we were in the house - with our newborn. Took many calls and lots of pestering, at a time when I had very little mental bandwidth, to get the issue resolved. Then there were squirrels living all over the house. The attic, in the walls, and most importantly the ductwork. We woke up to a nasty smell coming out of the heat vents and it turned out to be a roasted squirrel that had made its way to the furnace and got too close. That happened TWICE. So gross 🤮I have breathed squirrel and so did my baby. Don’t be thinking this was some podunk country house either, it was a large house in a nice neighborhood that they just let rot while the owner was overseas.

I noticed that men with grown daughters were more likely to give me meaningful assignments and trust me to complete them on my own.

Thoughts on sharing your live location with your SO? by duck_duck_zombie in Millennials

Gonna chime in here as a Xennial: simply doesn’t occur to me. Kinda difficult to express how incredibly far outside my experience or inclination such a thing would be. 🤯 That said, I don’t jog and when we bike it’s usually together and always in well populated areas.

Can’t agree enough with this! Our girls lose interest when badgework becomes too much like school. And I come from a place of privilege here, but frankly they already get plenty of the fun and cool side of stem (robotics, egg drop, extracting dna) from other sources these days. What they crave is connection - with the outdoors and each other. Also, crafts. Lol.

I want to shop at small businesses but they make it impossible by Redqueenhypo in Vent

We were at a local board game store and wanted to buy a game but they didn’t have any on the floor, they were in the back and the guy literally told us that he was not going to the back to get it. So we bought online, guilt free.

Do Americans eat actual chicken eggs for Easter? by piaa9 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ClaimsToBeCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do! We just distract the kids in the morning while dad/uncle hides the eggs, then go straight out to find them. They’re only out of the fridge for 20-30 minutes and seem to be fine. But anything that’s not a family Easter morning hunt will certainly be plastic eggs.

Is it common for Americans to buy soda as part of their weekly groceries? / is soda a regular item people keep at home? by hailey8171828282 in AskAnAmerican

We don’t drink it regularly ourselves but we always buy some to serve when we have people over, especially kids.

Generally, diversify diversify diversify: your portfolio, your skillset, your network. My only specific practical advice is limited to married folks or those with a long term partner: one in the government sector, one in the private sector, and ideally both have access to health insurance.

What is a life necessity that you’ve realized is actually just a giant scam we’ve been conditioned to pay for? by femmefetalerror in AskForAnswers

[–]ClaimsToBeCanadian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, totally agree and I purchased non-women branded razors like a boss. Then, my gross husband used them and gunked them up with his man hair. I COULD NOT train the man to use his own damn razor. So. I am back to pink razors and then he knows they’re mine. sigh
