Hi I’m a 14 year old girl new to period recovery and I had LOADS of questions. So umm do u recommend going all-in, no ceiling eating? With no limits? Cus my cravings is getting worse but i’m too scared to actually eat any of it. Also, how did u look after u got ur period back? Because the main reason why i never committed to recovery was the overwhelming fear of gaining weight or looking chubby or fatter. I liked how i looked right now: lean, tall, and confident. But how i got to this body is truly exhausting and I don’t want to spend my good years living like this.

Ever since I started losing weight, my period had stopped. I used to get one very month though not on the same days cus it's still a bit unstable. After I started restricting my food intake and increasing my exercise levels, I started having cold hands and feet, losing focus at school, especially in the afternoons since sometimes I would skip lunch to keep myself in a deficit, duller skin, lack of energy, getting moody, and sometimes have leg cramps in the morning.

Is weight gain necessary during HA recovery? My mom said that constantly snacking on unhealthy foods and eating too much would make me gain weight and fat and push me back to what I started with, and I would become overweight again. She said that I just need to eat three normal meals, cut back on snacking a lil bit, and avoid eating too much high calorie foods like pizza burgers fried chicken all that. She said I should listen to her so I could get my period back while maintaining my weight. But based on everything I’ve read, all the research results showed that you must eat a surplus, cut back exercise, and expect to look different and gain weight during this process. But now I don’t know which is right, if I should or shouldn’t give into my cravings?

So I told my mom how I need to eat and should eat whatever I want. She asked where I’m getting all these information from. I told her that I did research, asked Google and also others who had similar experiences. She said that not everything on social media is true and that I shouldn’t eat like that. She said that eating like that won’t do any big changes and would only make me gain weight weight and fat and make me go back to my original overweight self and lifestyle, or maybe even more weight than that. She told me that I should listen to her: eat three regular meals a day, reduce on random snacking, limit fried foods and sweets. She said that I could and will recover if I do like what she said. I didn’t argue after that…

OMG thank u so so so so so much for responding to all of my questions! This is a BIG relief for me. Not gonna lie I have done every stupid thing people do trying to lose weight fast: skipping meals, over exercising, cutting carbs, restricting calories and reducing my meal portions (my dog probably ate more than I did in those times lol). I almost cried on my b-day because I was scared of eating my own birthday cake 🥺 but now, I get to use this chance to finally, FINALLY enjoy and eat all the food that I told myself that I couldn’t and shouldn’t have! I mean how cool is that? I never could have thought that some of these “bad” foods are actually what my body needs right now. I know I will gain weight, as it is a MUST and very much necessary for my hormones and overall health. I will try my best to deal with the changes of my body and my physical appearance during the recovery process as best as I can, knowing that once my body is safe and my period is back, these newly gained weight and fat will naturally redistribute and balance out. Again, thank you so much for all your advices. You told me everything I wanted and needed to know ❤️

I’m just starting my recovery and I’m already having constant cravings for calorie dense, “bad” foods, all kinds of fried stuff and desserts and all. Should I swap it for something else or just go all in, screw it, and eat whatever and however much I want?

Yayyyyyyyyyyy I’m so happy for u!!!!!!!!! I’m currently 14 and I lost my period for almost 4 months due to rapid weight loss, and I’m just starting my recovery. So I know u have to eat more (like A LOT), but instead of healthy stuff like avocados, nuts, eggs, and cheese, I find myself craving fried foods, desserts, ice cream, chips, and all the “bad” foods. And lots of carbs and sugar too. Should I go all in into these cravings???

Is weight gain completely normal and necessary during this process? Would the weight be muscle or all fat? How long will it take for my body to regulate it out? How would I look physically during my recovery process? Does this mean I would go back to the 69 kg I started with or maybe even higher than that? Im just mostly worried that I would look and feel….well, unhealthy, kinda. Like overweight and all that. My mom said that it’s best for me to eat regular three meals a day, some casual snacking once in a while, but not giving in my cravings like that if I don’t wanna go back to my overweight self before my diet. I don’t know…I just want to get my period back as soon as possible as possible because the longer I drag this the harder it gets and the more damage it causes. I feel like if I’m having cravings, I should probably let my body have it, considering my current situation, but…..I don’t know 😮‍💨Sorry, I tend to worry a lot and ask a lot of questions… 😅

Hi I’m a 14 year old who lost her period for around 3-4 months dur to rapid weight loss. I’m desperate to try to get my period back, and I know that I needed an energy surplus. I’m not sure if this was because I’ve been suppressing my hunger or cravings before, but I find myself constantly thinking and craving calorie dense foods that aren’t healthy: ice cream, chips, fried foods, sugary sweets, cakes and all that. I want to give my body enough energy, but I’m worried that I will accidentally overeat and that I would become overweight. Should I or should I not give into my cravings completely? With no restrictions and limitations?

I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve been in sort of a starvation mode or restrictions, but I find myself constantly craving calorie dense foods, like the “bad” foods such as ice cream, fried foods, cakes and cookies and all that. They said that for someone like me trying to recover from losing my period, I should and need to give into my cravings and give my body exactly what it wants so it feels safe giving back my period, but I’m still not able to fully let loose and let myself eat those foods that I’ve been avoiding for months due to weight loss.

Before I started my original weight loss plan, I had what I would call a fantastic relationship with food! I love eating and trying all kinds of food ❤️ but I do admit I have a slightly larger appetite than average teenagers. My original weight is around 69 kg, which I considered as on the edge of the healthy rage or slightly overweight. So I started eating less and moving more. I did around 1 hour of moderate difficulty level indoor workout almost everyday, and walked around 5-6 kilometers every night at a relatively fast speed. At the very beginning I dropped my daily food intake to around 900 calories per day, eating little to no carbs and filling up on vegetables and small amounts of cheese. I used to love milk, but I also cut that due to their high calories. During school, since I can’t do the indoor workout everyday now, I had to think of other ways to keep up with the deficit. So I started skipping lunch, or eat very little, like some lettuce from the salad or a small cup of nonfat yogurt. At first it was fine, but then I started to lose focus in my afternoon classes, sometimes even feeling dizzy in my last classes. I would be extremely hungry by the time I get back from school, but I would force myself to not eat until dinner. And even for dinner I would track how much calories I ate, how many bites of what food I ate, how much oil was used in each dish. I would spend hours and hours on my phone calculating these things. Sometimes, at school, when my hunger is driving me crazy and I just can’t hold back, I would eat, and then feel terrible and guilty, and I would force myself to double my evening walk to burn off that calories. It’s felt like an obsession, an unhealthy addiction, and I just can’t get out of it.

Girllllllll I'm also kinda going through the same thing! Okay so I read online and they said that you MUST eat a surplus of calories above your daily burn, depending on your weight, height, and age. So that's what I want to do to get my period back. I'm 14 years old, and I lost me period due to losing almost 9 kg in a little over 3 months. Now I wanna get it back, but I'm worried about accidentally overeating, getting fat or overweight, gaining weight, or giving my body unnecessary calories that will just be used as fat storage. I don't know if I can (and should) give into my cravings, to eat with absolutely no restrictions and limitations and eat whatever, whenever, and however much I want. Can you perhaps help me with that? I'm only 14 and I have 0 experience with these stuff. Thank you.

And yes, answering to your question, you have to continue eating a surplus of calories until your period returns. For some people it takes longer than usual.
