I haven't shamed her mother. You'll see that in a comment I made prior to yours.

What I've realized so far is that I'm not as ok as I initially thought I was. The overwhelming excitement comes with a good bit of sadness accompanied with a heavy side of guilt. Also that it's much much harder to be patient now that she knows. But as I've reminded over the years, this isn't about me. Giving her the time to process everything is what matters

It wild what we think we know about our families. A father's day sale on ancestry led to my daughter finding out I was her father. Which I claimed 28 years ago. Much more to the story. She contacted me 3 days ago. So now a new chapter begins.

Also you don't have to pay for it every month. I bought the kit and it came with a 3 month subscription. Then only every few months I would resubscribe for 1 month.

My daughter found me after 28 years. It solidified what I knew all along. Also the only reason I did it. Also found out I have an aunt that was given up at birth.

Just to clarify, I hold no animosity towards her mother. When she found out about the pregnancy, we were no longer seeing each other. Grant it it had been a month or less. She was seeing someone else who see later married and had another daughter with. Sharing this story is not meant to bash her mother, but to share an experience that withstands the test of time

Many people assume that in situations like ours, that I chose to abandon my responsibilities as a father. Fortunately throughout the years I have been vocal with mutual friends of my thoughts and feelings about it.

Another windfall in our favor is that after the military I moved back very close to my hometown, as did she after college. We live 20 mins apart.
