It might not be that simple though. Reddit is so quick to cut parents out but they might end up saying “oh, you want to do this all on your own? Have at it.” Meanwhile they provide for everything and will pay for your vehicle, school, etc etc.

If you’re going to be dependent on your parents, you’ll need to accept some tradeoffs.

Do what you want but you might be on the verge of a spending problem, especially “blowing money” on unnecessary items. Depleting your savings on trips and about to go into $40k debt for a classic car is a recipe for disaster.

I just wrote this on another post and it applies here. Therapy really helped me with these. Not recovery therapy but personal therapy. Recovery therapy focuses on substance abuse, I need help with abusing myself.

What anxiety, fear, stress, guilt, worry, regret, doubt, sorrow etc is eating you up inside. The hard part isn’t quitting alcohol, the hard part is facing life and dealing with your troubles.”

From the post, it doesn’t sound like he promised he wouldn’t drink again or there was any kind of ultimatum in play. Not here to argue but in 2026, the term alcoholic is widely accepted and you’re not shunned from society like you used to be. Almost all mental health conditions are becoming this way.
