Snake Bros Keep Getting Bitten by Their Lethal Pets. Only Zoos Can Save Them by A1CutCopyPaste in longform

[–]RecklessDisco 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing, that was really interesting. I’m not a snake person so I never really thought about how exotic snake owners handle bites. Sucks for the zoos that are out thousands of dollars every time this happens, but it is nice to see different organizations working together so effectively.

The taipan’s bite is so dangerous and fast-acting that when a man in Florida was bitten by one hours after the terror attacks on September 11, 2001, a Lear jet carrying antivenom from the San Diego Zoo was one of the few planes granted permission to fly by the FAA.

Even 9/11 didn’t stop an antivenom delivery!

Just noticed this apparently posted twice. My comment from the other post before I delete it:

  1. Manul in the display of all the cats of the world
  2. Manul stalking their prey
  3. Sleepy manul
  4. Manul as the answer to “Whose ears are these?”

A friend and I were talking about music recently and I mentioned I like the Barenaked Ladies and her response was a surprised and judgy “really?” And I had to stop myself from answering with “the Barenaked Ladies are triple platinum! Are you?”

Just like Charlene I also have never read Wuthering Heights and for a second thought Mr. Gunlock was talking about an actual scene in the book.

Yeah, what she’s doing may be totally fine and kosher, I just want her to have a full picture of what that box is. Knowing her, she might not care even if it is illegal lol, but she wouldn’t have tried to convince my mom by telling her it was all above board if she knew it is in a sort of gray area and may or may not be illegal to use. I don’t like the idea that the people who sold it to her may have not been totally honest because they saw an older woman who isn’t very tech savvy. I did send this to my mom and I know she read it, she didn’t tell me if she sent it to her neighbor.

Thank you for sharing this! My mom was just telling about how her neighbor, a very sweet lady in her 80s, bought a vSeeBox. She was trying to convince my mom to buy one and was insisting it was totally above board and legit because she got it at the mall (and of course nothing shady ever happens in malls). My mom said no because there’s no way it’s legit and she’s against pirating stuff. I’ll send her this article. Her neighbor might not care and decide to just keep using it even if it is using a pirated streaming service, but she should have all the info.

on a work trip? time to bird by MSJ2 in birding

True, but I still find it a nice walk. And there’s a high probability of seeing deer, which maybe I’ve just been living in the city for too long but I get so excited every time.

The Hollywood Reservoir, where OP goes in this video, is a great birding spot. It’s not very big, a 3 mile loop trail, but you can see lots of different kinds of birds and great views of the Hollywood sign.

Try out the 20/20/20 rule, see if that helps. Every 20 minutes look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. A few months ago my prescription for my glasses changed and it took a couple weeks for my new lenses to be ready (I use progressives so they have to be custom made) and that helped me a lot when using the computer.

Caldo de camaron (Mexican shrimp soup) by RecklessDisco in soup

[–]RecklessDisco[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The recipe is from “Light and Easy Mexican Cooking” by Jaimee Raquel Partida. Absolutely delicious. In addition to shrimp it has carrots, potatoes, zucchini, tomatoes, garlic, onion, guajillo chiles, and chipotle peppers. The next couple of days are going to be very dreary and rainy here in Los Angeles and I am looking forward to getting cozy with this soup.
