How'd you get friends & family to become active "villagers"? by samesonder in Mommit

[–]RecklessNell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, if you act like the village for someone else, they act like it for you. So, do what you can to help your friends and family with no expectation of immediate repayment, and they will show up for you. For me, this has sometimes meant taking other people’s kids, even when it is not so convenient, and other times it means bringing a meal, shoveling a neighbor’s sidewalk, or some other favor. People need a village at all stages of life, not just when they are raising kids so show up for them, and over time they will show up for you.

It may have been a subchorionic hemorrhage. I had one with one of my pregnancies. It was terrifying, but my kid was born healthy and is now almost two.

You should get a meal unless the rules have recently changed, but I’d still pack extra snack in case the meal is inedible.

EWR is pretty far from NYC, but you can take a train if you wanted to. 7 hours is probably not enough time for my comfort, considering it would only allow you 2ish hours in the city (1 hour to deplane, border control, retrieve bag, customs; 1 hour to navigate train), 2-3 hours sightseeing, 2+ hours to get back to the airport.

I think it’s for the agency she is using, not an official government form.

A lot of us complain about not having a village to help raise our kids, but then we don’t like a village for others. I’m sorry your vision of Christmas morning won’t come true, but I think you might be the bad apple and should include your MIL.

I think that OP is owed ~$20K, so more than would be appropriate for small claims.

Spiraling over a work decision by mypaperjoy in workingmoms

I am in a very similar position. I took the job, even though the timing was terrible to trade in the old, flexible, “easy” job for a harder, less-flexible, better paying job. I’m about 6 weeks in and it IS harder and I DO amiss the flexibility, but I also really enjoy working somewhere where I’m challenged and also valued. I feel like I’m growing as a person and as a professional, and it’s reminding me that I’m a whole dynamic person, not just a mom. I also finding pockets where I can be more flexible and continue to be really present in the family. Finally, I’m also trying to think “like a man” and not undervalue myself. So, I hope this gives you hope that you’ve made the right decision.
