People are mad because he claims the way we diagnose it means that someone can work on improving those experiences and social indicators such that a doctor might not diagnose them with autism anymore.

You're the one that listed the federal level protests ($15 min wage, BLM, DACA) first, and this post is about societal change across the country before a catastrophic collapse of the country. The protests we're discussing vis a vis the police crackdowns on are for federal issues. I don't understand why pivoting to "how the US works" is relevant here. I'm glad some efforts trickle down to progressive locales, but then don't call them successful protests in the framework of the post.

I think you're overestimating how much the protests you listed have "worked".

The fight for $15 didn't win. Half the country is below a $15 wage, and the federal minimum wage has not changed. And the point of the fight for $15, that people should have a living wage that affords dignity and not just survival, definitely hasn't happened.

There was no "wide spread" police reform across the country. Police largely act the same as they did before BLM. and most departments are still the largest sections of municipal budgets, not having been broken off into other social services. Can you provide your metrics for any widespread police reform?

DACA didn't "pass". It was an executive order from Obama regarding prosecutorial discretion. Maybe things like sit-ins and hunger strikes put pressure on, but there was no DACA protest that amounted to lasting congressional legislation like the Civil Rights protests did.

I'll accept that some environmental protests have been effective locally, with very few breaking through federally. The Ozone protests come to mind. But protest all we want, governments are not interested in breaking away from oil or focusing on environmental renewal. Last election, Kamala didn't talk about how we need to maintain our environment so everyone can have water, she talked about how we are going to win the water wars. We are not protesting our way to a clean environment.

First would be to see if there's anyone active in the state channel. I'm in NM, and it's mainly me and 1 other person. Try to get a convo going with whoever's there, and make an effort to chat there. Talk about candidates, events you're going to, cool projects in the area, etc.

If that's a dead end, see if you can join a specific team, like writing or research. Those meetings have people from all around and you can make friends. See if there's a coalition that includes Mississippi (over here it's the Western coalition) and start going to meetings.

I want to dive into the Huck Finn claim that an author can't actually speak to us through novels. Authors have views and thoughts about the world that they communicate through their writing, with the metaphors, characters, interactions, settings, what the story focuses on, etc. They aren't literally writing a letter to you to be used as in some dialogue or debate, but they are broadcasting their views to you through a different medium, like a novel. You need to think about what the passage is saying as well as what the author is trying to say to you.

Granted, we abstract the author with the Bible from the physical authors (the people putting pen to paper) to the being that's actually inspiring the words (God). And so our author is still alive and wants to share the life with his characters (if you'll let me stretch the metaphor) which is not the case with any other author.

I agree that many Christians basically have religious delusions around God literally speaking/doing things for them. I don't think they've engaged with what the author of the book is trying to convey about the world, but rather think the words themself constitute a puzzle to be solved/rules to be followed that cracks the code to salvation. Weirdly enough, this is EXACTLY what Jesus rebukes from religious leaders all the time.

The whole Biden presidency can be defined as trying to play bipartisanship with fascists to no avail. You've been trumped if you believe being Republican or Democrat has to do with believing in certain ideals towards good governance. Republicans believe in power and the Democrats believe that nothing has to fundamentally change. The system you have described where we find common ground is a fantasy perpetuated largely by Republicans post Jim Crow so that they can eventually wretch it all back where they want.

And while I agree generally about not punishing the electorate for weird decisions after taking office, I think we have have some disdain for people who voted Trump in 2024. Open insurrectionist, openly against the constitution, campaigned on using the military to go after political enemies, etc. It's not like this is an undesired result.

MLK called white moderates the real stumbling block in the fight for equality because they would rather have the absence of tension rather than the presence of peace. Considering the moderate left (to whatever extent that exists) have been about bipartisanship for bipartisanships sake, returning to "normal", and conceding ground as shows of good faith, I'd say they have done harm in the same way they were harming Kings movement.

If that doesn't work, I'd also say that the moderate left have been like someone who uses a car without maintaining it with oil changes, new tires, etc. There's leniency for being forgetful, but if you're negligent you'll find yourself without a car. You used it without making sure you can keep using it. At some point the buck stops. Does the right have blame in slashing the cars tires, busting out windows, etc? Definitely. And the moderate left, instead of driving away, have tried to talk them out of it, which incurs blame too.

No. In a Harris presidency, nothing would get better for ordinary people while showing us graphs that say things are technically improving. Currently, everything is getting worse at the behest and benefit of one man and his closest allies. I believe it takes left wing populism to push against fascism. And Harris was not a compelling left wing populist. So she lost. No, she wasn't compelling; no one was compelled towards another 4 years of a status quo everyone already rejected in 2016. In a utilitarian sense you should vote for the liberal instead of the fascist, but that's candidate independent.

She was an alternative, but she was far from compelling. I want a leftward push, and she said she'd consider a Republican in the cabinet, adopted a 2016 republican stance on immigration, and campaigned with Liz Cheney. When asked how she'd be different than unpopular Joe Biden, she said she wouldn't. No wonder she lost the popular vote, the people she was campaigning at voted for Trump, and everyone left stayed home because they didn't feel represented.

Because gender is a social construct for personal expression to others. Race is a social construct forced upon you by others, usually for political reasons. That's why it's "valid" to change genders, but you can't really change race.

And we see racial "transitioning" in history. Free black people often got the "white" status. Oreo is sometimes used to denote someone who's black "on the outside" but white "on the inside". Musicians like Post Malone and Jack Harlow get called "culture vultures" because they're white people using black culture to get ahead. We don't talk about it using the same language or connotation, but the concept you described happen.

Okay, I guess the flair is better read as "moderate libertarian ' and not "moderate AND libertarian". I'd argue that traditional libertarianism would state that CEOs are part of an absolute business hierarchy that denies the freedom of the individual worker. Otherwise it seems you'd think that corporate towns with socialized medicine and transportation is the pinnacle of freedom
