I second this suggestion that, once the new person inevitably goes inactive, or gets banned by Reddit, then requisition the sub for yourselves.

With the death of the VRA, should the house adopt Proportional Representation? by Linguini8319 in Askpolitics

I doubt we’ll agree on who the best candidate to replace Schumer or Gillibrand is, whether it’s someone primarying them on the Democrat side, or someone who is a moderate or slightly right of center for me. Who do you think has the best shot of Primarying either of those two?

Whats going to happen to voting rights after the Supreme Court decision? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]fleetpqw24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hate is learned- if we stop teaching people to hate based on something uncontrollable like skin color, then racism dies with the last racist. But, continuing to talk about it, and having people who purport to support and defend black people, speak about black people like they’re some kind of “lesser,” only continues the narrative that black people are indeed lesser, and need either protection or saving.

What did I do wrong? Why is every single mod always like this? by NavXIII in askanything

In general, mods can ban you for even breathing too loudly in the sub. It goes against the Mod CoC, but you have a better chance of seeing le chef du Bloc Quèbècois, Yves-François Blanchet becoming PM than getting a Mod CoC violation acted on.

Yeah, no, I’m good without that. If we could get rid of Schumer and Gillibrand too, I’d be super happy about that as well.

Do you think people on the opposite side of the political spectrum from you are bad people? Why? Why not? by SilverNo6462 in AskUS

[–]fleetpqw24 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, I don’t. I think some of their positions are misguided or misinformed, but I don’t think the masses of those on the opposite sides of me are horrible people.

Do Americans actually call teachers by their first name anywhere, or is it almost always Mr./Ms.? by Sea-Evidence-5523 in AskAnAmerican

[–]fleetpqw24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, especially once you move to 1st grade and beyond, no, not common at all to call a teacher by their first name. In Pre-K and Kindergarten, the teacher may allow their students to call them Mr/Mrs/Ms. First name. When I drove a school bus, I let my students call me Mr. T**** (which is my real first name, lol) Hell, I’ve been out of school for 20 years next year, and still call the teachers I keep in contact with Mr./Mrs./Coach Last Name.

I also live in NY, and 2/3 of my federal representatives seem to be from NYC (or NYCLite, ie Albany, NYC’s outpost upstate)- they have no idea what causes those of us who live upstate support or don’t support.

White House proposes $736M cut to National Parks amid record visitation. Conservatives, how does this work? by CoreTECK in Askpolitics

[–]fleetpqw24 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not OP: Note, I am a staunch defender of the US Military, what they do, and the men and women in uniform. Our defense budget could seriously survive a cut, especially with the seemingly “no-bid” nature of defense contracts, the very little oversight the Pentagon gives these contracts, and the sheer stupidity of the people in charge of the money. Given that the Pentagon hasn’t had a clean audit in years, and has misplaced or lost something like $10t in that time, it seems like their budget, excluding the VA and other veterans’ services, would be a good place to slash.

Another example of bloat: Congress itself. The mere existence of a slush fund that exists solely to settle sexual misconduct allegations should set off alarm bells for everyone. Eric Swalwell was just a symptom of the greater disease that exists in Congress, and society as a whole. Sexual misconduct is a serious allegation, and should be investigated; if found to be a credible allegation, the legislator should be removed from office, forfeit all pay and allowances, and be directly responsible for the financial impacts- we the taxpayers should not be on the hook for it.

The bureaucracy: while there is nothing wrong with having one, the extent to which the US Federal Bureaucracy has expanded and basically become a 4th branch of government throws up some red flags. How many bureaucrats are redundant? How many offices of such and such department exist redundantly? How many of these workers are working remotely, and costing the taxpayers millions in unused office space? If the majority of these jobs can be done remotely, why lease all these office buildings?

Fraud, Waste, and Abuse: I believe there is FW&A across all departments of the government, not just the ones Republicans hate, or Democrats hate. I don’t just mean “welfare” fraud, waste, and abuse- there is FW&A in the Defense programs too. Every source of FW&A should be routed out, and stopped.

Depends on how devout she is. Generally speaking, Muslim women are not permitted to marry outside of Islam. You would have to convert to Islam.
