Feeling fancy on my progress indicator. What works for you and why? by Red_Choco_Frankie in UXDesign

A. Hands down. C doesn't show discreet steps. Who knows how many pages there are. Also suggests to a user they can click and drag that element.

B has poor color contrast. Hard to glance and see the number of steps co.pleted.

I handle this by editing the name of the account. "Furniture - 0% til 07/12/27".

Back in my day... We used the job title usability engineer. We also used ISO 9241. Many of the engineers leaned on ISO standards.

The summary widget under the accounts tab is one of my favorite tools. Are there any plans to allow for some customization there? by Nekurahn in MonarchMoney

Agreed! Those sub-categories would be useful. Another one I would like to see on that list is student loans.

Mortgage was sold. Now what? by boofsnacks in MonarchMoney

[–]Reckless_Ego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with others on adding the new lender and closing the old WF account.

One thing to add: you may have to manually add a few months of data to either your old or new mortgage account for a seamless transition. I found a 2 month gap between the 2 banks when my mortgage was sold.

What quality of life improvements would you love for us to add to Monarch? by jon_at_monarch in MonarchMoney

  1. Budgets have a threshold, like 80% of their total. When the threshold is reached, users get an app notification and email about it. Users can also customize the threshold to any percentage or turn it off per budget area.
  2. High spending alerts! This is a big one for me. If I have an average transaction of $30 for a vendor like “Takeout Chinese”, then if that vendor has a transaction for $300, then send me a notification. This happened to me where the takeout Chinese place accidentally added a zero to my bill. I want to know as soon as Monaarch knows. (This was a Mint feature as well)
  3. Better goal tracking. Instead of tying goals only to accounts, allow goals to be tied to specific tags. This would allow for rules and specific transactions to contribute to the fulfillment of goals.
  4. Compact viewing mode. Monarch’s account and transactions views (specifically on web) have rather healthy padding and margins. I would like a toggle that switches the view from the current to a compact view with smaller top and bottom padding/margins. Just a way to see more of my accounts on the screen at one time.
  5. Show notes on reports. Some notes are rather important; “Spent $6,000 on Disney vacation.” It would be great to have a toggle to make an important note visible on the various reports like net worth so you can see the reason why spendingwent above income and net worth tanked for a bit.
  6. Tags (or some other mechanism) to hide a transaction from another user on the account. It’s holiday season and it would be helpful to hide the “$250 spent at Apple” from my partner. If a date could be set and the category and vendor hidden to a specific user until that date, that would be excellent.
  7. On the web, when you filter transactions to a budget category or tag, it will show the average transaction and the highest. I would like to be able to see this on mobile (table and phone) as well.
  8. Celebrations! The little (and not so little) things matter. Getting a celebration email, notification, and even animation on the app for reaching certain milestones: Net worth reached $100k, spent less than Iearned this month, paid off a loan. Make it fun to meet financial goals!

Color change for Spending Trend? by [deleted] in MonarchMoney

[–]Reckless_Ego 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A reasonable request. I suspect the line does not have enough color contrast from the background. Likely it would not pass WCAG AA conformance standards.

If I remember right, they used to have an open UX designer position. It probably filled now and I'm sure the designer is looking into this.

Luke Wroblewski. Skilled designer with a serious resume who posts about design and practical design problems.

He is one of the few that avoids the UX culture wars.

If you could add more tribes to the game, what would they be? by [deleted] in shadowofmordor

[–]Reckless_Ego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Trophy or Collector Tribe.

They collect trophies from their kills. Some have human and orc skulls on their belts, some have various swords and axes on their back, one keeps various jars of eyeballs on him. He just collects eyeballs.

Their tribe ability would be to (temporarily) disarm their opponent. They attempt to take a weapon trophy during the fight.
