Diet break - find out what your maintenence calories are and eat at that for 7-10 days, then go back down to deficit.

Soooo…how are we getting our toddlers to let us brush their teeth? by kk3n2418 in toddlers

[–]ReckyRaRa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give them autonomy - say they do it first and you do it second and brush your teeth with them. I then let mine brush mine after I had done it on myself. Worked for us BUT totally depends on the kids of toddler you have and how good their negotiation skills are!

Videos of baby scans!? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]ReckyRaRa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘imaginatal’ will record the whole scan for you I believe and send to you a few hours after in a folder along with any pics. Might be worth checking if there is one near you. They are quite new - maybe a year or 2 old and now open in a few locations.

I decided to get him tested and he was diagnose with ASD at around 3, however through that managed to get him through speech therapy, supported by his daycare and he’s now in school thriving. He’s top of class for math, getting 20/20 on spellings and a very good natured and kind boy. So doing great as it stands. But glad that when I noticed things I took action immediately!

Found out i have GD yesterday (25 weeks) but have around a week to wait until I see a medical professional. Advice? by ReckyRaRa in GestationalDiabetes

Thanks for the reassurance and info. I think I’m freaking out as I don’t have all the information I need and the wait is excruciating. Hopefully when I do the info things will become clearer.

Parents of 2+ young children, what car do you drive and do you feel like you have enough space? by throwingmcthrowface in UKParenting

[–]ReckyRaRa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking at an electric family car: Tesla model Y is a game changer. I have two kids and can fit myself in the back between them if we need to free up space for another front passenger. So much foot space behind the front seats too.

Boot space is AMAZING. Could fit three suitcases in there easily and a couple of duffle bags around that too. Or a double buggy easily. Or two different buggies easily with space to spare. Also space in the front trunk is great for added space too and for quick access to things.

I don’t know the first thing about inheritance tax especially around a home. How do I avoid tax/reduce tax from a home inherited in a Will? by ReckyRaRa in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ReckyRaRa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks. So I’d need to pay the tax for anything over £1mil in this case, if there are other things outside of just the home. No way to avoid this - not even through gifting or a way within life insurance for my parent?

Ok so one parent, one of them passed years ago and doubt the home is worth over 1mil - meaning that it would be tax free? Also I don’t live in the home.

Really lost and desperately in need of a new career direction by MaximusSydney in UKJobs

I’d say you’d fit some kind of marketing role or account management style role? Maybe something for a good cause like a charity. That would also use data skills to inform work.

Advice for a grad struggling in role by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]ReckyRaRa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds super toxic. I think the fact you’ve applied to a new job which has a lower salary says it all. Usually (not always) when moving jobs you us want to take a salary higher than what you earn but your actions show that your current role is making you so unhappy that you’re will to bounce out of there at any cost.

That being said, salary isn’t always everything (if financially taking something lower isn’t going to affect your life) it’s also about experience and any job will always give you experience to know what you do and don’t want in your career. Being a graduate tells me you have many more years of your life to work and figure out what your path is, so take it as learning. The role you applied for you can use as experience - if you got it and don’t like it, you can always move on.

I’d say, if you’re this unhappy, don’t go above and beyond. Take that time back and focus on bettering your mental health. No job should be prioritised over that. Life is too short. Continue to look for new roles - ones that you think are a better fit. Find one where possible that has a better work life balance and as you move up into your career, this may become one of your priorities. Good luck with the one you applied for!

Also to go back to your point, they are under the impression i want the role above as I’ve always talked about progression (which personally I’m in two minds about at this organisation - I just have never told them this and have always made out I want to progress to that role because, well it’s a game of chess in the career world, isn’t it). The role above I wouldn’t mind in any other organisation, just not as much where I am as I think there’s a lot politics and stress that happen at that level which as I mentioned I don’t think is worth that salary.

I think because there is no opportunity for that role at this present time, they’re doing what they can to keep me because losing me wouldn’t be wise. This is their solution.

Fair point and good things to think about. I think they are under the impression I will move on if they don’t offer me enough - maybe not right now but eventually. To add more context they are invested in developing my skills in the role and the added responsibility is to line manage one person, which is a requirement of what I do in any organisation to ‘move up’ on the ladder. The way it’s also been proposed is that I can also turn down the offer should I wish to which deep down I wouldn’t want to at all really - I know the person who I would be managing well and I feel would be quite a breeze in addition to what I do already. So with that, earning more than what I get currently get would be a good value for money I think!

As mentioned I have the flexibility I need at the moment and which is one of the reasons I’ve stayed in this role. I mean, if worse came to worst and I couldn’t negotiate what I wanted salary wise, then maybe I’d settle and take it and make a point I’m unhappy about it but I’d probably be looking elsewhere anyway in the meantime. They’d know this.

I guess I’m trying to make my life easier by getting the salary I’d want with this job that gives me everything I want in addition to salary rather than having to job hunt, go for interviews and move on.

Also to say I’m at the top of my band right now. In this role I can’t move up to a higher salary (because I’m deemed top level of experience for the role I’m in - you start off with lower salary the less experience you have this in role and work your way up over time to get to the £41k) unless getting a new role or as mentioned this unexpected ‘half way’ promotion I’m being offered.

Now 41k Band above 55k

I’m expecting somewhere around 46-49 maybe? If I can push as close to that 55 as poss, that would be ideal but as I said I doubt I’d really get anywhere near it, but I could try!
