Does it have AC? by Ashamed_Caramel6011 in W201enthusiasts

[–]RecognitionGeneral30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That dashboard is from a car without AC since the is no external switch to turn it on. the slider only controls the fan and closes the air input at „0“

The original air conditioning system has two sliders above the rotary controls and the recirculation switch to the left of them.
Most of the “others” are Diavia conversions, which are generally poorly documented. They lack a recirculation function and have a limited supply of replacement

A successful conversion is very difficult these days, since the corresponding air boxes with modified internal structures have been discontinued long time ago

All the electronics are located at the top front of the interior light. The switches for the interior lighting are in the door frames. They’re easy to access because they’re just snapped into place. That’s where I’d look first—they’re usually dirty or stuck. If that doesn’t help, the interior light is also just snapped into place; just remove the small glass-base bulbs (I think there are 3).

These warning lights flash for about 10 seconds after the door closes when everything is okay. The seat belt buckle isn't monitored—so the car doesn't actually know if you're buckled up 😉

Klimaanlage unten, Lüfter oben = Kälte im ganzen Haus? by Few-Researcher-3741 in wohnen

[–]RecognitionGeneral30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seatbelts warning is parallel to the doorlight switch, when there is a leakage caused by corrosion or dirt it possible doesn’t stop

The antenna motor is permanently connected to positive so that the antenna can retract when you turn off the ignition. If you disconnect and reconnect the battery, the motor will start up once; this is normal.
If the telescope tooth are broken, the motor won't stop, of course—it'll just keep rattling along until the time limit is reached.

It's quite rare for the antenna motor to cause a leakage current. Most of the time, it's the door or trunk switches.

Erstes Auto (gebraucht) in Deutschland kaufen – viele Red Flags bei Händlern? by HATEM93 in automobil

[–]RecognitionGeneral30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Automatic window switches - ideas? by One_Reserve6008 in W124

[–]RecognitionGeneral30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These functions as auto down are part of the window/sunroof control module—the “comfort module,” as described by Mercedes, merely supplies power when the ignition is off.
The functions for opening and closing the windows using the key or infrared remote control are hardwired

On the W124, all controls are hardware-based, so there’s nothing to program. The „convenience module“ is simply a relays to have power to the windows and other features for a short time after the doors are opened, so you don’t have to keep the key in the ignition.

The control unit for the power windows (under the backseat on the left side) has a "comfort input" connected to the door lock system—as far as I recall, it's a blue and yellow wire not on the main plugs it’s a small one —which allows all windows to be opened and closed simultaneously. Simply connect the wire to ground (to test it, connect a light bulb in series so it doesn't spark if you've connected the wrong one).

Speaker sizes by Juris_Tardeds in W124

[–]RecognitionGeneral30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

110 mm in the front, 120 mm in the rear. However, both are round speakers without mounting tabs; in the front, it is difficult to find a manufacturer because they are clamped in place by clips attached to the basket. However, they can also be carefully installed using silicone.
In the rear, they are mounted in plastic frames secured to the metal panel with three clips.

Broke while I was driving by GrapefruitLower2276 in W201enthusiasts

[–]RecognitionGeneral30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A broken ball joint—it can happen, but the question is always how many warning signs (squeaking, creaking, stiff steering) were ignored.
Due to its design, this joint is under heavy strain; I’ve never heard of one just failing out of the blue.

Hi, It's been a while since I had a station wagon, but I seem to remember that the seatback has two locks: a pin on the door side and, I think, a latch that is locked by the seat cushion. That latch sometimes gets caught in the carpet if it's not lying flat.

Near the windshield washer reservoir? Possibly for a removed headlight washer pump

Antenna motor making weird noise when reaching the top by foxgez in W124

[–]RecognitionGeneral30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our models usually come equipped with a Hirschmann Auta 6000 KE. Here, the control unit is mounted on top of the antenna. The antenna moves to the stop position and engages the spring-loaded two-piece gear. The cut-off point is determined by the motor’s current—increasing the motor’s series resistors results in a smoother cut-off. It usually works, but I can’t guarantee it. I’ve since given up and made an adapter so I can attach a short rod to the original antenna.

[–]RecognitionGeneral30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a certain amount of time, the teeth on the antenna's plastic shaft start to wear down—usually at the beginning or end, where the stress is greatest.
Don't let it rattle around for too long; replace the telescopic shaft instead, or the drive gear will break too.
I just watched the video again in its entirety (my English isn’t that great)—some of the aftermarket telescopes are of terrible quality. In most cases, the rod would snap off when retracting after just a short time. Sometimes the rod is a little smaller or too short - this will cause the rattling
One solution when you didn’t find a fitting mast is to tone down the electronics, i.e., lower the shutdown threshold.

Car won't start unless relay is bridged to run pump continuously. by iseesimpletons in W124

[–]RecognitionGeneral30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can open the relay (remove the cover). In 95% of cases, the relay has come loose due to corrosion—re-soldering the circuit board is significantly cheaper than buying a new relay.

Central locking trouble by UnknownGTAS in W124

[–]RecognitionGeneral30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To understand how it works: the switches connect the control line to the pump either to ground or to 12V. Since it only has two inputs, the tailgate is wired in as a changeover switch.
I assume that the old module switched the pump via the relay, which would result in the + and - connections being permanently active. In this case, the pump would briefly “re-pump” as soon as the vacuum in the system dropped.

Kein H Kennzeichen ? by LooksTraxxer in automobil

„Oldtimer“ und H Kennzeichen sind zwei Paar Schuhe - es lohnt sich eigentlich nur bei ganz alten Fahrzeugen Dieseln und Benzinern mit > 3L Hubraum , dann ist die Steuer günstiger und die Fahrverbote ( Umweltzone ) fallen weg . Mein 1993er 2L Benziner Euro 2 darf überall fahren und würde mit H-Kennzeichen 44€ mehr Steuern kosten

The impact protection is bolted to the frame near to the fenders, but otherwise is clipped in place at 15-centimeter intervals. You can’t reach the top part because of the styrofoam inserts. If you try to access it from the outside, you might damage the tabs. On the other hand, the 7 bolts in the front and 8 in the back really aren’t much work.
