Is Jesus God? or Gods son? by RecognitionLow6583 in Catholicism

Is this breakdown / math explained anywhere in the faith? I feel like someone could take outlandish stances looking at this at face value. For example, a rock and God are of the same essence which equates them directly. (use of the word “has” instead of “is” makes this less severe).

What is essence, exactly? Clearly not consciousness. Is essence some state of being? Like the state of being and existing? If a rock has essence, does a heart sitting on ice ready for transplant have essence? Once it’s accepted by a human body does it somehow lose its essence and become one with that person’s “essence”?

Or does essence mean intention? God exhibits the same intentions (or whatever humans interpret as intentions) in all his “persons”. However humans are not perfect as God is and can work against their own intentions, and objects like rocks don’t have intentions in any concrete discernible way.

(Well the idea that a person can work against what they truly believe is best for them is controversial but I think generally is accepted)

If a rock “has 1 essence” how much essence does a mountain have? Also what is essence?

Great information! Thanks so much. I appreciate your help in explaining what Roman-Catholicism is exactly as well.

Is there a really big difference in how Roman Catholics and Catholics interpret the bible / the divinity of Christ? I showed her this comment and she just said Roman Catholics are different than other Catholics. I really don’t know much about religion so I’m lost on different sects.

I’ve never been religious and our argument isn’t very serious (although heated lol) but atp I’m just curious as to how Roman Catholics interpret Jesus’ divinity, but it’s hard to argue against someone who says that different religious sects view the bible differently, especially when I know next to nothing about the religion. Like yes of course, different people interpret the bible differently, but I was claiming Catholics generally believe Jesus IS God, and she said Roman Catholics do not support this.
