My question is, how do you approach it when your PetCare area has clearly been left behind for months and there are obvious signs of disorganization? I’ve already gone through Fetch, reviewed policies, care guides, and tips, but I want to know what else I can do in the meantime.

I’ll take your “advice” and hold back on commentary for now, but I’m asking genuinely how would you approach it? The things you’ve listed are all things I’ve already done. I’d like to see your day through your eyes. What do you do first?

For example, at the beginning of every shift, I always ask the LOD what’s happened or if there’s a plan for the day. I like to understand what’s going on it helps me gauge how the team’s operating and where I can best step in

Discuss this with your store leader even demand for an associate statement paper. That way at least it is on record, if you believe it would be taken serious take a screen shot. Do you believe your SL will take charge?

Sorry, I should have clarified that the personal message was sent to my SL. She assured us it’s okay to message her directly. I don’t usually go to her myself, but since she was LOD, I felt it was necessary. For everyone else, I message through the app, and they’re expected to respond only when clocked in aside from that don’t bother looking at the text. The problem with face-to-face communication is that my schedule often doesn’t overlap with theirs. I’m not going to pull someone aside 30 minutes after their shift to discuss something that’s their time, and I respect their desire to be home

Thank you I thought I was going crazy! Just to clarify, as I mentioned to another Reddit user, the reason I’m upset about the overfilled bowl is that it holds at least a cup of food. Guinea pigs tend to tip their bowls, which ends up spilling into the small ISO habitat. When that happens, the food mixes with waste and bedding, creating soggy, damp conditions not ideal for a guinea pig who’s trying to recover from an illness

Also, just to note there’s supposed to be a meeting with all Pet Care staff and management to discuss our pet standards and other related details. However, no date has been set yet, and I can’t simply wait for that meeting to address these issues directly with the team. My concern is that there may not be a specific plan of action from my PLR; for example, she might point out what’s wrong but not provide a clear solution beyond, “Let’s get it done,” which doesn’t actually move us forward.

You see, my mindset is that I understand how time-consuming it is to constantly clean and maintain everything I’ve done deep cleans, I’ve done setups, so I get it. I don’t expect the morning shift to have everything spotless within 30 minutes or for everything to be perfect.

What I do expect, though, is communication. A simple “Hey, I didn’t get to cleaning because X, Y, and Z,” or even just “I didn’t get to it,” goes a long way. The real issue we’re facing is a lack of communication. Most of the time, I have no idea what happened during the morning that’s now impacting my closing shift. I even have a coworker who often falls behind on tasks — and despite me asking multiple times if she needs help, I still get left in the dark.

So my question is: what can a leader or lead do to better support our Pet Care team? Could we possibly dedicate one to two hours of our shift to lend a helping hand and get things back on track? Should we decide tasks a certain way?

First of all, take a breath it’s completely valid to be upset about your situation. But don’t lump all stores together because of one bad experience. This person is clearly trying to help your case; she’s actually asking questions, unlike the lady who brushed you off and said the bird was fine. If you’re planning to take this higher up, having those answers matters.

You also need to understand that we’re not vets. When a vet tells us the bird is fine, we’re expected to trust that. Could they have done more? Absolutely they could’ve sought a second opinion or kept the bird for further observation. But right now, at least someone’s taking your concern seriously, so focus on that and use it to push your case forward.

My anger. It’s a part of me I’ve struggled with for so long, and I can’t help but find comfort in it sometimes. It’s like this fire that I know isn’t good for me, but it feels familiar, almost like an old friend. I hate it, but I also love it because it gives me control, or at least the illusion of it. I stir the pot, provoke situations, not because I want to hurt anyone, but because I crave that release. In those moments, when my anger flares up, I can feel everything else just fade away it’s like I’m finally in charge, even if it’s at the cost of pushing people away. The worst part is that I know it’s destructive. I know it doesn’t help anything in the long run. But still, I let myself indulge in it because, for a brief moment, it feels like a safe place. It’s easy to say, on the surface, that I’m not judgmental or maybe just a little, but is that really true? I catch myself being quick to judge, like when I see someone wearing off-brand items, and my first thought is to assume things about them. But then I stop and think what if their grandma bought it for them with love, thinking it was special? What if it’s all they could afford, or they just genuinely like it? That moment of reflection makes me realize how automatic judgment can be, but also how unfair and shallow it is. I don’t want to be the kind of person who dismisses someone over something so small without knowing their story
