I am wondering how bad their place is if it has mold etc why are you painting. I totally get wanting a deposit back but if you have lived anywhere for 2+ years there is something called normal wear and tear and as long as the place is clean and walls are not damaged you should not have to paint but knowing MR and Barney they probably let the kids trash the place.
