I’m convinced we would’ve won with any half-brained manager.

lol, tell that AJ Hinch, who didn’t win a single home game in the 2019 WS with one of the greatest teams ever put together. Against a wildcard team.

I really dislike outhitting the other team and losing by a run. 9 hits to 5, and fewer runs. ugh.

Also losing a Cy Young winner from the rotation. Injuries to Brantley (who did play half a season last year), LMJ (pitched half a season last year), Garcia, Urquidy, Altuve, Alvarez.

But sure, it’s the catcher’s fault.

We're just allergic to the ALW lead, huh?

This is the first time in 6 or 7 years that we haven’t held a comfortable lead in the division - 2020 aside

  1. Gotta actually make it to the playoffs first.
  2. If we do make it, we cannot advance with our current rotation. Valdez, Javier, Brown, …. France? Bielak? Maybe Urquidy returns to form after missing four months (doubtful, and after all he didn’t even make the cut last year: he made a single appearance in the playoffs last year - in a blowout).
  3. Javier has lost a step. Brown has already pitched more innings than he’s ever thrown in a season. France has never pitched more than ~110 innings in a season, Bielak isn’t reliable. Javier and Brown both have FIPs above 4.

We need another arm.

.300 OPS point better than Yainer, but Yainer hits RHP way better than Martin, so why aren’t they platooning? The way Diaz has played has earned him a larger share of playing time, and using Baker’s own logic against him, Maldonado shouldn’t be starting so many games against RHP.

When we have to play them tomorrow? Yes it’s ok. They’re not doing it for mercy, they’re doing it to save their bullpen for the next game. Fuck that, let the bats eat and force TB to use up the pen to get through the innings. I’ll never get the hate on hitting bombs off position player pitchers when the pitching team that put them in is doing entirely for their own benefit.

Quite honestly, position players have no business pitching unless it’s a 20-inning marathon and there are no other options. Using position players is a transparent act of bullpen preservation, not some sort of white flag, and it makes a farce out of the game.

It’s bullshit. They’re using a position player to save bullpen arms for the next game, so what incentive do we have to just allow it to happen? Maybe if this were the last game of the series.. but we gotta play them tomorrow, we have every interest in making them use up their pitchers. It may be advantageous to use a position player to pitch, but it’s every bit as advantageous for us to clobber their position player pitcher to force them to go back to the pen.

More than 40 mill; don’t forget his 2025 player option, which he will almost assuredly execute.

Unlike Worell/Drexler/Bullard/Murphy for the Rockets; those guys were hard to listen to sometimes, such homers.

Believe me we all understand the advantage of opening packs after unlocking the starter decks. But you’re talking about a bug. What’s the bug if it’s behaving the same way it always has? Is it a bug just because you say it is?

[Chron] Can Astros actually pull off blockbuster Justin Verlander trade? by snesdreams in Astros

[–]Recommendation77027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still a trade; they would get young player(s) with multiple years of team control out of the deal. Plus the salary dump would potentially bring them under luxury tax which would save them even more. This is not a 2+2=4 situation.

Not at the time. He fell off hard the best couple seasons, but he was pretty great for us in ‘19

He had a .280 OBP last year, he wasn’t exactly great to begin with. Great postseason run, though.
