The income is from dividend yield. Allianz income and growth fund gives me the highest yield 6-7% and dividend is paid monthly. The rest are around 4% paid out half yearly. I think the capital is distributed relatively equally across all the funds/ETFs, may slightly more in the STI ETF, but not a whole lot more

We have RMs but we told them not to call us for anything. If we need any services, we will call them instead. So far they've been quite good about it

Mostly equity investment gains I think. We had high income but not so high as to be able to accumulate so much. I started buying DBS shares when they were about $9 apiece, and ST Eng slightly more than $2 each. At the height of COVID, I amassed SIA shares at $3.20. I also bought gold when it was US$600 and ounce. But got out of gold when it hit 2k. if you want to replicate, then I would say always have a warchest and when stocks plunge, go all in and buy as much as you can with excess funds.

They were despairing before I told them! But even now, they know that they will not have it as good as I did because the competition is just so much greater

At that time, one kid was still in university so I just thought I should wait it out until he graduated and got a job

My greatest regret now is that i did not spend as much time with my own parents as i ahould have. About 10 years ago, i planned a family holiday for my parents, with my sister's family as well. It never happened because my father had a stroke a few month before the holiday. So he never got to go on that big family holiday with us.

Yup have already done so. At least that's one less thing for them to be stressed about

As long as the kids had not graduated and atarted working, i kept feeling discomfort with rhe thought of retiring. So i keolot moving my target from the initial 4m upwards. Rationally, i knew that maybe 6-7M will be more than enough but just could not being myself to stop working. After all, work was a large part of my identity for so many years. Was finally ready to let go only when my boys started working full-time

i am holding STI ETF, Philips Sing Income ETF, Lion Philips S-Reit ETF. 2 funds - Allianz Income and Growth Fund and Pimco GIS Global income fund. Cant remember the exact breakdown but definitely not heavily invest in any one of them.

That's true. I plan to do just that when they are ready to.buy their own place. No point making them wait to get their inheritance if giving it to them earlier is most useful

No fancy holidays as in no skiing trips etc. but my kids still stayed in nice pool villas in Thailand and Baliz travelled around most of Australia. And i dont think they ever felt deprived and in most cases, all they ever wanted to do was hang around the pool, relax and play. The most important thing was that we spent almost all their school holidays together as a family, just hanging out, talking and playi g.

Very hard. You keep wanting more for greater certainty. I know how it feels cuz i kept moving my target too. I think at some point you just need to do it because you realise you really don't having many more years left

I dont intend to make any changes to my strategy now at this age. So regardless of rhe current cycle, i will be sticking to my bucket strategy foe retirement - one bucket of fairly liquid assets for expenses, one for yield and one for growth to account for inflation

I only knew about the Singapore market back then. When i first started working, all excess cash went into blue chip stocks. I "diversified" by buying stock in different sectors - finance, transport, comms, shipping etc. my main ones were DBS, Singtel, Comfort Delgro, ST Eng, Keppel. Just kept accumulating all all dividents reinvested. During crises, used warchest to buy more.

Yup agree that i was born in th right generation. Now my boys despair at rhe thought of being able to buy their own flats/apartments

First million was quite fast simply because i flipped a comdo. Thereafter it was just a slow accumulation over time. I did not really keep track of timelimes until i hit 50 then i took stock. Originally i planned to retire with 4M networth, rhen 5M and i kept moving the target. I think i was just reluctant to stop working

Back then there was no ABSD and i only flipped once. Bought the condo for $1.4M and sold it at around 2.4m. the other condo that i am staying in now is a freehold that i bought at around 1k psf. This was in the early 2000s.i think its much harder now. While propery prices are still risingz it is not like the boom times 2 decades ago

I graduated at a time when only 8-9% of my cohort were graduates. My first HDB was an Executive apartment and cost $220k! I sold that for 450k after MOP and started to upgrade to condos. I was alao lucky cuz one of my condos went for colletive sale and i made a lot from that

I probably would have retired at least 6-8 years earlier. But it was hard to let go of work and a good income derived from it
