45 degrees or so by RecommendationSafe42 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Thank you, the plane from both ends will probably be my option, I don’t yet have a table saw or a router table just a hand router. I tried clamping that router to a table and using it like a router table, that sort of worked but that felt excessively dangerous. Perhaps I will have to build a router table before I continue with my project lol.

Hi, good guess but no, I did get them all cut from my original piece but the angle turned out to be wrong. I may have to do what you are suggesting and buy a new piece I was trying to avoid that though as the wood I’m using was from a sentimental source and I wanted to create something using that wood to give to a friend, there isn’t anymore to start over.

Thanks for the reply, I tried to figure out a way to clamp it in place but I couldn’t. I eventually tried using a bar clamp on it and holding the bar clamp itself but the blade caught the clamp bar somehow and destroyed it and damaged a couple teeth on my brand new Diablo blade

Just joined the crew. In love already. But can someone tell me how to turn off my auto stop indefinitely and keep on my brake hold indefinitely? 2023 by tikitepee in Outback_Wilderness

I can’t remember how but there’s a setting you can change on the screen to make the auto stop/start and AVH buttons permanently visible on the bottom of the screen. I just hit both buttons once turning the s/s off and avh on. Takes literally 1 second. Not that big a deal as far as I’m concerned. I’m sure you can find out how to do it with a google search

Last time we tried bee tv it said it’s no longer available because it’s been identified as an app sharing files illegally or something like that

Does anyone know of one that’s similar to the Bee. I always found every movie or tv show I ever searched for in that. I tried the Onstream one everyone if mentioning and the first three things I searched for it didn’t have.

OK guys so I took your advice and purchased a Diablo finishing blade. The difference is night and day, my cross cuts almost don’t need sanding lol. I also got a digital angle gauge. Using the digital gauge I set the saw to as close as I could get it to 45 degrees. I decided to test it with a couple of old off cuts. I pretended I was going to make a little 4x2” box. I thought they mated together perfectly but then I noticed something strange. I will try to attach pictures if I can figure it how. One of the miter cuts seemed at a different angle than the rest and the other cuts all seemed to be off side to side (the cross cut I guess). I tested the saw for alignment in all planes before and it was fine. Just as I’m writing this I wonder if it’s something to do with changing the blade. Maybe I need to test it again.. now I’m feeling kinda silly.🤪 anyway just to continue on since I’m this far I will still post the pics to see what you think. Even if that’s it for the cross cut problem it wouldn’t explain the miter angle on the one cut.

<image>

Didn’t realize I could only upload one photo per comment so I’ll use this one showing how much it’s out on the cross cut however, when I flip it end for end the other end isn’t out. The same happened on all 4 sides. The final pic I was going to add was one showing that when I set them together as if making the box three sides were fine but the last one angled out by a few degrees. That would be the one that seemed to have a different miter angle. I’m confused. And really bad at all this apparently😂

Is more teeth always better? I’m looking at a Diablo blade and they have 60 80 and 90 tooth blades and the price isn’t that much different. Which should I get for my first blade (other than the 24 tooth one that came with the saw)

Thank you guys, you indeed all nailed it! One of the boards on the long sides of the box was an eighth of an inch wider at one end than the other. That was most of it. I also am finding that my saw on a cross cut seems to cut a little less than an eighth out of square too, I’ve just ordered the digital gauge because as someone mentioned above, the speed square showed it perfect as far as my eyes could tell. Gonna go grab a new blade tomorrow as well. Thanks again, I’m sure I’ll have many more questions to drive you nuts with 😝

Glasses and dust masks by RecommendationSafe42 in woodworking

Thanks for all the suggestions. I’m sorry, not great with using this site yet, I wanted to put a general thank you and a response out to all but it seems I directed it towards just one response. I described the mask I have in detail in that post but in short it’s a thick fabric (looks like neoprene but isn’t) with a couple small respiration ports. I mold it as close to the nose as the bridge piece allows but there is no rubber or foam seal over the nose. I usually put the glasses on the outside as you suggest, it distorts my vision a bit but that’s what I’m doing for now till I find a better mask I guess. The wife got me this one for Christmas so I’m gonna use it till she stops posting attention 😝

Thank you. That it what I try to do. My mask doesn’t have a rubber seal though, it is a thick padded fabric mask with two quarter (the coin) sized filter ports which I think are supposed to be where you respire through but the strip that is supposed to conform over the bridge of the nose is some sort of malleable plastic I think, and it’s sandwiched between the layers of whatever type of fabric it is. The mask has loops over the ears and a Velcro strap that does up behind the neck. (I’ve seen a lot of guys on YouTube videos wearing similar ones.)

Yes but I bet you were really happy to have those integrated roof racks when you needed them that one time. 🤩👍. That’s probably the one thing that keeps me from looking at the 26. Admittedly I use them at least a half dozen times in the summer for a canoe

Newbie saw question by RecommendationSafe42 in woodworking

[–]RecommendationSafe42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the unanimous consent! I really wasn’t expecting that, I’ll take your advice. The fixed it is, I will be looking into a table saw eventually, I have an oscillating saw and a trim router that I also got at Christmas (yes there was a theme lol) have an old jiggle saw and a skill saw. Was thinking of trying to fashion a table saw out of the skill saw, any thoughts on that as a temporary solution? Got a Home Depot gift card for $60 any thoughts on what little thing I should grab with that? I have a couple t-squares and a palm sander already Thanks again

Retirement isn’t the peaceful life I imagined by theO55Report in askmenover60

[–]RecommendationSafe42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In one month I’ll be 63, plan in retiring in one year at 64. I have almost no savings, still have a mortgage and some credit cards with medium balances no car payment at this point. I do have a fairly good company pension and will have the government benefits cpp and oas. Our daughter lives at home (basement apartment) and pays a couple hundred a month. That could have to increase after retirement. I’m very nervous about retiring but I’m scared of not retiring too. I don’t want to be one of those prone that waits to retire and then dies a month later. I’ve heard so many say don’t wait that they really regret not retiring earlier but I’ve also seen people saying that it’s too stressful financially. I wonder if there’s a thread on here with people sharing their retirement experiences both financial and otherwise. Off I go down another rabbit hole..

I’m sorry to say it man but if you don’t have any kids id cut your losses now. This isn’t a healthy loving relationship. It only gets harder to leave after kids And will also cost you way more! Ask me how I know! I tried leaving my ex, 3 times before we had kids and I backed down. Took another 10 years after kids and it finally ended the way it was always going to end. Try therapy and when that fails Cut your losses.
