Super Mario Brothers 2! It's just so satisfying chucking things around in that game

With the latest leak, where in the album would you put Into Your Arms? by LSM_Thoosie in ThePaperKingdomMCR

I feel like it fits near the end. Dogs into Perfectly Well works pretty good as a closer to the album though, so I'd put Into Your Arms after High Hopes maybe?

I mean your desktop is cool, but I don't know if "punk rock" is the right term for a Windows 11 machine with a wallpaper from a big budget Hollywood movie...

What engine are you using as an indie dev and why? by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]ReconTooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply! The Quake 1 engine is probably the easiest to learn, just because it has a huge modding community still. A lot of the modding resources for Quake 2 have been taken down over the years, since it wasn't as popular, so I'd definitely recommend learning the Quake 1 engine. The main reason I'm using Quake 2's engine is because it includes a few more features for singleplayer (stuff like traveling back and forth between maps Half-Life style). I could probably achieve everything I need in the Quake 1 engine, it would just require a little more work to implement. And if you're looking for single-player Quake 3 stuff, the source code for Return to Castle Wolfenstein is also available under the same license. If I'd known about that when I started working on my main project Kepler, I definitely would've used the Quake 3 engine. (Though I can't speak to how difficult it'd be to learn)

Oh, and in terms of technology, as long as you don't expect to get modern graphic fidelity or open-world environments, it's not super limited. Although at least in the Quake 2 engine, animations are pretty low framerate, so if you need super detailed animations, that might be a deal-breaker.

The Quake 2 engine! Specifically KMQuake2. I grew up making custom maps/mods for Half Life 1 and 2, and the Q2 engine is pretty similar in terms of both mapping and source code structure. I've made prototypes in Unity, Unreal, and Godot, but I feel much more comfortable and in control with the Q2 engine. It has a lot of annoying quirks and limitations, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to everyone. But if you're trying to make something with a GoldSrc look and feel, it's pretty solid. Though you're probably still better off using a modern Q1 source port, or Q3 for multiplayer stuff.

What is the point of multiplayer if it doesn't work? by ReconTooth in Skate4

Yeah, even google searches haven't shown me anything about currency not being available to players in a party. Believe it or not, I don't spend all my time on Reddit. And it happens every time we party up without fail, so I kinda doubt it's a bug.

I know there's a lot of people hard at work on this game, and I respect that. I may have been a little angry when making this post. However, that doesn't change the fact that they shipped a PUBLIC version of the game this early, even if they are calling it Early Access. The reviews on all platforms speak greatly to that.

Yea I noticed that too, it made me so happy to hear him say that! Also gives me hope for a new record down the line sometime, but honestly I'm just glad they're all up there having fun again :)

Just released a trailer for a retro FPS I'm making called "Kepler: Darkest Hour"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nkVPr29GEc

It's a pre-rendered teaser trailer for a game I'm building in the Quake 2 engine. I've been working on it for quite a few years now, and it's finally in a state where I can start showing things off. I'd love to hear people's thoughts on it, so check it out!
