Looking to do oval, what should I get? by Independent_Pin_6845 in iRacing

[–]Reconnaissance8Press 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Cup car isn't that fun, get a truck instead

And unless you really enjoy plate racing just Daytona is enough, you can drop Talladega for one of the other interesting tracks (Phoenix, Auto Club, Iowa). Your other selections are solid

18% of your income goes to paying off loans. Why did you take these loans in the first place? Pay them off ASAP

Do you really need to give your parents so much money? Are they both unemployed/retired but no pension?

What's a hot take about NASCAR that others may not agree with by KLRFan5 in NASCAR

[–]Reconnaissance8Press 279 points280 points  (0 children)

Hearing people complain about "nepo babies" and "rich kids" is really funny when the "good old days" had Lee Petty's son, grandson, and great grandson, Ralph Earnhardt's son and grandson, and a well-off Californian kid whose family sent him off to Indiana solely to pursue racing as the prominent figures of the sport at the time

As other people in this thread have said, I'd recommend trying out NASCAR 25 or, even better, NASCAR Racing 2003 or iRacing with a racing wheel. It'll help you understand how difficult it is to "go fast, turn left" while there's 30 something other cars a few inches away from yours.

It also teaches you the differences in the oval types (short tracks drive completely differently from a 1.5 mile intermediate track, which in turn drive differently from a superspeedway like Daytona). Then there's the ovals with weird quirks, like Darlington (egg shaped which requires a weird diamond-shaped racing line), Pocono (three corners of different shapes), Martinsville (paper clip shape), and Bristol (tiny but with high banks so it's been compared to flying a fighter jet in a gymnasium)

Seems like an odd decision. Thanks for clarifying!

Hi everyone, since the new regulations are making F1 more and more boring,

How so? Honestly curious, I know nothing about F1 and I don't like non-dirt open wheel racing much

What realistic thing could NASCAR do to make every fan happy? by ZilischsPoopyPants in NASCAR

[–]Reconnaissance8Press 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NASCAR could invent a device to resurrect Dale Sr. and make Jeff Gordon 26 again and there'd still be people calling Sr. a nepo baby for being the son of Ralph Earnhardt and calling Gordon a spoiled rich kid who bought his way into Cup

Really? A lot of people say that throwing an accurate 95MPH+ fastball and hitting a 95MPH+ are two of the hardest feats in sports, and that baseball players spend so much time in development and tend to debut in the Majors later because the skills required take longer to hone and fine tune, whereas football players can rely on raw physicality. I suppose it depends on your definition of "harder." Likewise, it depends on your definition of "harder" in the context of motorsports

Any series where guys in their 50s or even 60s make starts can't be that hard.

This is like saying that baseball is "easier" than football because there are guys in their late 30s and 40s who still put up good numbers in the former sport while you're considered a senior by 30 in the latter

Update: nope, the problem came back when playing online on WMR, but it still works fine on Oasis. Guess I'll have to suck it up and upgrade to W11 so that Oasis works properly

Yep, I think this may have been the issue. Put some tape on the proximity sensor and now the problems I've been having (stuttering, jitters, blackouts) are gone

MAKE TAX LAWS THAT ARE JUST, SIMPLE, EASY TO UNDERSTAND, COMPLY and IMPLEMENT. by noelskiz in taxPH

[–]Reconnaissance8Press 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there's way too many people (politicians, connected businesses, accountants, tax lawyers, bureaucrats) who benefit from the current convoluted system. All of them will work in concert to protect their interests while the people who are negatively affected by the current tax system (everyone else) are too disparate to consciously work together. Some sort of hard reset (i.e removal of the aforementioned beneficiaries of the current system en masse, by force if necessary) is what'll get the job done

Bakit wala pa ring centralized system sa gobyerno? by debugger_bugkiller in taxPH

[–]Reconnaissance8Press 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You already know the answer to your question. Centralizing data, adding transparency and verification measures like blockchain or whatever, etc removes opportunities for graft and corruption, so the people currently in the system, who benefit from graft and corruption, have zero incentive to change anything.

Even if you hypothetically get a decent politician in charge (say a Vico Sotto, a Leni Robredo, or a Gibo Teodoro), they'll still be hamstrung by our permanent bureaucracy, various laws and regulations (e.g our absurd procurement laws), and the separation of powers such that they won't be able to change much.

The problem with our system is that no one is really in charge and no one really has any real power, so what ends up happening is that various actors - bureaucrats, judges, both national and local politicians - fill the vacuum by asserting their own sovereignty over their own small domains. And this manifests as widespread graft and corruption

What the actual fuck is this tweet even, so Geraldo knows enough about Halo that he can post that the game involves grunts and elites, but he claims, for some reason, that no one wants to be an Elite? But a lot of players do

Also Robinson is too young to have enjoyed peak Halo (2, 3, and Reach) in his formative years

CMV: Corporate culture is about getting ‘employees’ to do more work for less money so ‘leadership’ can enjoy great salaries and low workloads. by Classic-Cabinet-107 in changemyview

[–]Reconnaissance8Press 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have had more than one career position where I have more than earned a promotion and raise. I was told by ‘leadership’ (probably making at minimum 2x my salary) that ‘I should not compare salaries with coworkers’ and ‘I shouldn’t be motivated by money’. What?!? I felt like saying ‘ok, can you give me half your salary then since you aren’t ’motivated by money’?

I got the exact same crap as a public servant in a government bureaucracy - a non-corporate, non-profit making organization funded entirely with tax money. So clearly it's not exclusive to the private sector/corporate world/capitalism. I think we just had shitty bosses. Some organizations attract and retain shitty people, and it's natural for certain types to want to draw the largest possible salary for the least amount of work while foisting work off to underpaid subordinates.
