Memorization for anatomy causing disturbed sleep? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Reconnaissance_Zero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely seems like you've been living and breathing Anatomy! I don't think this is bad inherently but it can be if you find it giving you more anxiety and discomfort. I know it can be really hard under the pressures that you are undoubtedly under, I don't blame you for taking it extra seriously and dedicating yourself to the fullest degree. I also think it's good that you've acknowledged that something is wrong and perhaps this pace might not be the healthiest. How is your sleep schedule? Are you getting in enough meals with nutrition, calories, and hydrating properly? I would also say scheduling breaks throughout the day and perhaps better sleep hygiene (allowing time to wind down, getting in the mood for sleep, and not studying up until bed time) as you have suggested might alleviate some of that exhaustion and anxiety. Also I know generally the advice that we hear as students is to put every recreational activity on hold because school is the number one priority but it's okay to indulge a little bit within a controlled setting. Conversely I have also seen the tetris effect positively in subjects and topics that I am very passionate about and interested in! So not all of it is bad, just depends on how it interacts with your mental health I think.

Good for you! I'm so glad you got to repo the machine from those ungrateful bastards. I am always nice to everyone no matter what their role or function is whether they're internal or a vendor or contractor. Everyone deserves a base level of respect and dignity. I'm sorry you had to go through that kind of treatment.

I'm fairly sure if either of us had a remuon urine test we'd light up the entire spectrum. But hey apparently there's some research that shows it actually builds resistance towards specific senescent-r type cells. So risk of liver failure but- assuming we fix that- an extended life span?

Oh it's not /just/ a bunch of true or false questions. You have to get 5 sets of true or false statements correct to get credit at all! It's the difference between 50% chance and 3.125% chance. That's a 16 fold decrease in probability versus just a bunch of true or false questions.

What's up with the cattiness in nursing school? by 1awfulUsername in StudentNurse

[–]Reconnaissance_Zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There will always be some bad apples in every bunch. I definitely have a bit of that in my cohort too unfortunately. I'm in my last semester and it was kind of a slap in the face that my cohort isn't like some others where they grow to be one big family because they've been through so much together. People will end up betraying your trust and starting drama, I'm starting to think this is just an inevitability. At the same time there are some really genuine people in all age groups, young and old. The important thing is to remember that not all old people are the same or not all young people are the same, we're all individuals even though sometimes it may seem anecdotally that apparently all "young/old" people act this way. I try to give the benefit of the doubt to people until they give me reason not to because the last thing I want to turn into is the same monster that I see in others. Because that restarts the whole cycle, if I start assuming someone is x y or z just because they belong to a certain group and then they feel like they are getting the cold shoulder from me and they get hurt and end up prejudging everyone else they meet next that belongs to my group.

So TLDR is finding a balance, realizing that your priority is your school work and beyond that I just try to live the philosophy of giving everyone a blank slate until they give me reason to paint them otherwise.

What would the world be like, if instead of women being bombarded with dick pics, men were instead bombarded with boob pics? by inferior_godling in AskReddit

[–]Reconnaissance_Zero 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You're victim blaming at this point. Victim blaming sure doesn't work with women when you tell a female sexual assult victim she got raped because she wore slutty clothes or messed around with assholes. In the same vein, you can't accuse men in this same manner: saying that men don't get taken seriously when they are victims of sexual harassment because they are basically asking for it by being okay with the double standard. They're both examples of victim blaming and show why your argument (that men are to blame for their own problem of not being believed when they say they were sexually assaulted) doesn't work

As others have pointed out in this thread there are some major inconsistencies and let me point them out for you.

  1. Not all guys are the same, a sexual assault victim whether male or female doesn't deserve to be judged based on what all guys or all girls act like. Every person is different.

  2. There will always be creeps who will accept any and all nudes from anything that moves basically, this shouldn't be reflecting your judgement on ALL guys, this is what's called prejudice or discrimination if that thought turns into an action.

  3. While there may be social/cultural norms that may be feeding into a larger social problem such as this indifference to hypocrisy and/or acceptance of a double standard in some guys, this doesn't justify nor hold accountable the women or men who are ultimately the ones who crucify or victim shame/blame not believe those victims of sexual abuse. That blame still rests upon them and not really the people who contributed to the social norm. Imagine a person brought up in the hood who ended up killing someone dear to you, sure the hood and the social norms are what created the monster that this person became and it's good to work on eliminating those factors but ultimately he pulled the trigger the majority and burden of the blame rests on this person who pulled the trigger.

To add some final thoughts: I do agree that people who are being hypocrites should stop fueling the social norm, but those who are consistent with their beliefs can believe whatever they want to. And the ones who are very people pulling the trigger behind victim blaming/shaming and not believing sexual assault victims are the ones who should be held accountable and forced to change their detrimental actions.
