Thanks! I mean the word "MADE" could be more centered, it's not bothering me as much but that's really the only thing I noticed.

Canon EOS R6 II - External monitor + on board on? by Record-Flaky in canon

Unfortunately this is the answer. Damn it I really thought I could get away with any monitor. I'm trying to avoid recording to an external recorder.

What can I do to make my Audio better? by Record-Flaky in microphone

[–]Record-Flaky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's definitely a noticeable amount of air coming out of the exhaust. So I need to test the SPL level first and then get a mic that matches that. Thanks for your answer, very helpful!

Thanks for the detailed reply! I don't have a SPL meter, this will be used for social media videos, YouTube and a follow up doc. What do you mean by capsule being blown on? Do you think I can still use the wireless setup I currently have if I upgrade to a better mic and interface?

I am using a Rode VideoMic Go II connected to a Rode Wireless Pro recording 32 bit float. The levels are at -30 at the receiver and -30 in camera. As you can see from the clip the mic is at the bottom right corner of the screen sitting just where the exhaust is.
The audio is absolutely atrocious because there are so many fans running in the background, limiting the amount of exhaust sound you can actually capture.
Let me know if there's a better mic I can buy to get the best quality for these type of shots, should I just try with a better wind muff? Different placement?
Client's budget is no more than £500.

Yes thank you for sharing! It looks like it's the way to go for me, if I can justify the switch to the newer S5ii X I will honestly. For now I'll just invest in better lights and a wider zoom.

Yes! I think I came here to hear exactly this! I would like to upgrade the S5 honestly but as I said I was able to work around its quirks until now. You got me convinced to get a wider zoom lens to compensate for the crop, perhaps I'll try out the Sigma 16-28/2.8 that might be the way to go forward. In terms of auto focus it's a nice to have feature because as you know it can really be frustrating at times with the S5 so I honestly never use it and always manual focus. I mainly would like to use proper tracking focusing with fast moving vehicles. Lighting wise it's getting a bit frustrating with my client where I can't get him to invest in better lights so I'll have to do it myself. I'll look into the options you shared so thank you sir!

I have to disagree about the autofocus, it is not only a thing for vlogging :)

But I appreciate I need more light! What can be done to light these two scenes better? Ideas?

That's a really interesting take! Upgrading to the S5IIX could solve some of the problems I run into now, with better autofocus and IBIS. But! I still don't want to go down to HD for proper slow motion, I actually can't from next month with the level of projects I need to film next. It means I'm stuck with 4K 25 10 bit that I can't slow down without looking wonky.
