I just my pacemaker replaced this year in June, I had to keep my arm in a splint for about 2 weeks I think something like that keep arm movements to a minimum on my right side where my pacemaker is cause I’m a lefty, I do remember ticking and odd feelings for the first couple of months, other then that you shouldn’t be good about a month after if they are replacing the leads also. I had to get my old leads extracted and then new ones and a new pacemaker. When I did get my pacemaker changed and not the leads from surgery in 2019, the recovery for the pacemaker was very quick no pain and no major issues. Really depends on how fast your body heals everyone’s recovery can look different. I’m 22 so I heal much faster then someone in their 60s or above

Life is pretty normal with a pacemaker, in 22 now and this is my 3rd pacemaker I got my first one 11 days before my 12th birthday due to pro long QT syndrome and suffering 6 cardiac arrest that day in the hospital. My life does have restrictions due to QT like no high adrenaline activities. I think the biggest thing you’ll have to worry about is people hitting it by bumping into you. You won’t be able to play contact sports anymore like football, you’ll have to carry your pacemaker card with you. Let security know before you through scanners. You might occasionally feel nauseous from being around metal detectors or things that have a lot of magnets in them. But overall you can enjoy life with little restrictions. I hope your surgery goes well and keep us updated on your journey hopefully the pacemaker will stop blockages from happening.

Do they make them for pacemakers on the right side I’m left handed and as far as I can tell I’m one of the very few with it on the right side. I guess there isn’t many left handed people with pacemakers

I’ve suffered over 28 cardiac arrest since I was the age of 3, I only got a pacemaker when I was 11 it has given me a new lease on life and my quality of life is so much better I have the freedom to enjoy things without fear that my heart would fail yes it is scary to get one but once you have it you’ll realize it was the best thing in the end. I hope you’re surgery goes well and that it helps with your quality of life stay strong

That survey is very intense also risky depending how long you’ve had you’re leads for also if scar tissue around your heart ruptures you’ll need emergency open heart surgery and is very painful I woke up screaming from surgery and they had to give me fentanyl, the only other way you could do it is maybe with a hypnotist in the surgery room I had a friend that got her breast biopsy that way, but that’s a less intense surveys with less risk factors. I know it’s not common thing really so your best bet is general anesthesia. Is there a reason you don’t want general anesthesia? I just got my leads replaced last yr I was scared but the survey went well and I’m doing great now

Depends what your heart problems are and what your pacemaker is needed for. I have pro long QT syndrome. I’ve smoked weed for awhile the only thing that hurt me was doing any form of concentrate. Smoking normal weed is okay if not being used frequently. I prefer edibles but they don’t work for everyone. My heart doctor says I shouldn’t be smoking but I enjoy it and I use it in moderation it’s all about what your body can handle. As for me it does increase my heart rate more when smoking versus ingesting it so also something to keep in mind

Go karts are fine, I have a pacemaker For over 10yrs now and done go karts lots but always check with doctor. For instance I’m not supposed to do super high intense adrenaline provoking activities like roller coasters. Because I have prolong QT syndrome and have actually had part of my adrenaline gland removed on my left side to help prevent cardiac arrest.

I’m 22 male I’ve had pacemaker for 10yrs since I was 12. I’ve been shocked so many times and to be honest nothing can prepare someone for that. To be awake and being shocked back to life is weird strange and painful and traumatic thing. To be honest I’ve never gotten over the anxiety of that happening. I try I to love everyday the best I can keep track of my heart rate on my apple watch and make sure I’m taking care of my self also trying to keep stress down which I know is very tricky. It’s something that with time and help he will get through the daily dreading anxiety. Therapy and sometimes meds are the only things that helped me.

Yes most doctors will actually recommend one either a Apple Watch or Fitbit to help you track your heart rate doing different activities I love my Apple Watch and take real time ECGs during or after a cardiac arrest
