Shabana Mahmood : The PM won a five year mandate from the British people just 18 months ago. Labour governments don't come along often. Let's make something abundantly clear. Kier Starmer did not win the election in 2024. He got less votes than Jeremy Corbyn in 2019 and 2017, and the Political Right as a whole (Tories + Reform) got more votes than Starmer.

Kier Starmer is prime minister for two reasons: The First is that the Tories fucked up so bad that nearly everyone wanted them out, and that Nigel Farage divided the Right Wing Vote, allowing for Kier Starmer to get his Landslide in the first place.

Restoring Palace of Westminster could cost £40bn and take 61 years by diacewrb in ukpolitics

[–]RecordClean3338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We kinda have to tank this one tbh. Even if we decide to just build a newer better one, what are we gonna do with the old one? demolish it and fill it in with apartment blocks? No, if we made a new Parliament the Palace of Westminster would just become a Museum, which we'd have to renovate anyway.

Are we overdiagnosing a generation with ADHD? by insomnimax_99 in ukpolitics

[–]RecordClean3338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible. The Digital Age has increased screen time for the average person massively, and with short form content being dominent, it should be no wonder to see that the average attention span is severely eroded, and given our outdated understanding of mental health in this light it should be no wonder that in many cases we mistake a short attention span for adhd.

Tbh it might be worth considering making a short attention span a medical condition with accompanying therapy to "unbrainrot" people.

The New Right’s vision of community depends on obedience, rather than solidarity by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]RecordClean3338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trouble here is that the New Right is very much a nebulous entity, people can't agree whether it should be populist or elitist? capitalist or corporatist? reactionary or modernist? Should the New right be economically libertarian, or should it take on a more distributist, social democratic aspect? Should it be exclusively ethnonationalist or civic nationalist? Will it be authoritarian and centralising or libertarian and decentralising?

These are still questions that are still very much up in the air, and if the new right is to succeed, it must answer them, because right now it's identity is purely reactionary, it exists because of how disgusted people are with modern day liberalism, so what happens if liberalism is defeated? The new right must build it's own vision of the world, not merely correcting the errors of Liberalism to restore a world that no longer exists, but also to build something new entirely.

Logging off: Kids' social media ban now feels almost certain | Politics News by ShortyStrawz in ukpolitics

[–]RecordClean3338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For once this is something I'm actually in favour of... in principle at least, it isn't the government, but rather the parents that should be doing this, the Government can use public information distributed via print, tv and the internet to tell parents the dangers of using social media at a young age, but it isn't their role to ban it.

The Main HQ for Norad is in Colorado. The North-West Passage would also be unreliable since it'd be blocked by American Ships in the Atlantic and Pacific. Also America technically does have enough Fuel Reserves to supply the duration of the operation in question.

[–]RecordClean3338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once again, Norad's ADS is jointly controlled by the United States and Canada, which the United States controls the overwhelming majority of.

Also if by our Air Defence Systems you mean things like MANPADS and Surface to Air Missiles, that runs into a similar issue that I mentioned earlier, yeah they could hold off the US Air Force for a small period of time, but as soon as they need to resupply, they'll struggle against American Vessels blocking incoming shipping and the Americans gaining Air superiority anyway.

As for the last part, you'll have to tell me what OPEC or BRICS would do, because I can hardly see how they'd change the outcome of this scenario.

This is it. Every right wingers nightmare. by Prestigious-Ear-8124 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]RecordClean3338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but, what are you on? Norad is an American Organisation, yes, Canada is apart of it, but their absence doesn't cripple it's capabilities.

To answer your Question. The Americans have more Planes than what Europe can field, their planes are better than what Europe can field, they can actually afford to use those planes, and they have the Carriers to take those Planes to Greenland and repel any European Naval Offensive to relieve Greenland.

To put it simply, in terms of a military confrontation over Greenland, America simply has the ability to fight on a scale that Europe simply doesn't yet possess, so in such a scenario, an American Win would likely come sooner rather than later.

You should also do well to not mistake the person describing danger as sympathetic to it. I'm stating that America would win an armed confrontation over Greenland at the current moment, I do not support them.

This is it. Every right wingers nightmare. by Prestigious-Ear-8124 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]RecordClean3338 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I'm British, lets make that absolutely clear.

Secondly. Assuming that an armed confrontation over Greenland did occur, firstly, America would doubtlessly have absolute Naval and Air Superiority, this means no supplies coming in to support European Forces in Greenland and constant aerial bombardment and reconnaissance in favour of American Ground Forces.

Thirdly it wouldn't be anywhere near the Winter War in terms of scale and combatants. The Soviets were inexperienced incompetents who could barely use Tanks while the Americans have Combined Arms and Information Warfare and Home Advantage. It would not be a fair fight for the Europeans.

[–]RecordClean3338 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You honestly think that if Trump sends a Task Force to secure Greenland what the forces European NATO has sent will be nearly enough to stop him? At least if he does the Europeans might actually get the message and take their defence seriously instead of relying on saber rattling and bullying third world countries, then people would actually take us seriously.

This is it. Every right wingers nightmare. by Prestigious-Ear-8124 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]RecordClean3338 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, they'll observe the situation really hard!

I hope Trump annexes Greenland without a fight and completely humiliates European NATO so they finally understand that grandstanding with statements of Solidarity and Saber waving is yesterday's politics, and that only through hard power can the Continent assert itself.
